As part of our What to Do When the Doctor Says series, this book will help people newly diagnosed as well as those long-suffering with the disease to 1) understand the disease, 2) treat the disease, and 3) live with the disease. Number three is most important as this is a disease with no cure which requires vigilance in diet, exercise, and medication on a daily basis.

Alexis Munier is a writer and opera singer who was diagnosed with diabetes at age 13. Her disease has never stopped her from pursuing her dreams. She has traveled the world and has performed in Colorado, Massachusetts, and California. She lives in Zurich.

This was the most insightful and informational and inspirational book on Diabetes. Having a mother with type 2 diabetes, I am always searching for new information and guidance. Healthly eating, exercise, and mental strength -- thank you! And knowing the facts - so important. This book truly guided me to help my Mom and prevent me (hopefully) from getting this disease. I found this book to be extremely well-written. It's easy to read and understand, whether you are a layperson or a medical professional. The technical terms are extremely handy when dealing with a health care professional. I also liked the fact that Ms. Yu includes so many personal stories - gives the reader something to identify with. In the back of the book there are a lot of websites, addresses, and phone numbers for Diabetes organizations. The glossary is also a nice touch. This is a must-have for anyone who has Diabetes or whose family has a history of Diabetes.
