5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing else like it, January 9, 2010

I have never found another book like this one. It provides a step by step guide of what to do and explains how you'll feel after a traumatic loss like homicide or suicide. But mostly it addresses how to handle the police, detectives, media, and others after such a loss. I cried through every page as it as if it was written from my own heart. You truly can't know what it's like to experience such an event until you do and this author has. This book should be required reading for every family member as they leave the police station after such an event. This book fills a void in the legal system, which is what you should do after the police leave.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely helpful and practical guide, December 27, 2007

There are many books that talk about grief, but this book is a practical help and guide for people who find themselves suddenly thrust into the complicated situations that come from the sudden loss of a loved one due to murder or suicide. It talks plainly about dealing with the legal system, the police, the media, etc. I have kept a copy on hand for years and sadly, just had to give one to a friend of mine whose brother was murdered. She has found it to be eminently helpful in the midst of a confusing and difficult time.

5.0 out of 5 stars What To Do When the Police Leave, April 24, 2007
The ONLY book that deals with the specifics of sudden loss. All police departments should carry this book. If you know of someone who has recently suffered a sudden loss (death not due to illness), please get them this book.
