3.0 out of 5 stars Very basic advice, March 24, 2010

This pamphlet is ok, but very simple and limited. If your interest in preparedness is this limited, it may be a good choice for you. On the other hand, if you really want some advice on how to survive a grid-down emergency, it's a poor choice.

For a few dollars more, I recommend you read Jim Rawles book (linked below). It covers the same material and much more. At the least it will give you some thoughtful reading beyond "buy some candles".

How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times

2.0 out of 5 stars Arcane, May 15, 2011

If you have no idea what to do when the power fails, have never owned or maintained a home, never gotten your hands dirty working on it, then this might be the book for you. It's arcane enough to not mention solar panels, and I'm surprised I didn't see fuses listed instead of circuit breakers.
The section on generators and power usage of household items is the saving grace, because it lists the starting loads not just operating loads of household electrics. Very important to know your water pump requires more starting power than it uses to operate, and how much, most homeowners under buy emergency generators in this area.
It would be better if it had alternatives to all the malfunctions and operations to fill in for lack of water, etc. Outdated material.
