5.0 out of 5 stars Organized, thorough and thought-provoking. This IS the best.
My brother in law drove over to my house in a snowstorm, late at night, to give me this book. I didn't believe it COULD be true. However, I have researched it extensively since that time and have come to the conclusion that it's much better to be prepared for the worst and not have needed to do it than to have needed to prepare and have not done so. 2.0 out of 5 stars Someone seems to be Looking Forward to Y2K
The author fits squarely into a believer of the worst-case y2k scenario. He sees a dramatic collapse of civilization as we know and hints more than once that this is probably a good thing (given current morals, work ethic, reliance on government, intrusion by government into daily lives, etc.)

His presentation is often rambling as he drifts from one topic to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets you thinking, December 7, 1999

I like provocative books, and this one offers a nice pallet. I'll spend my Y2K at home, under the covers, thank you very much! If you enjoy fiction on this subject, a book I recommend highly is Glen Kleier's suspense thriller, THE LAST DAY. It's a very original, VERY unusual look at the turn of the millennium. Probably one of the most thought provoking books I've ever read. Simply a great story for anyone looking to commemorate this event of a lifetime with something special.

However, I have researched it extensively since that time and have come to the conclusion that it's much better to be prepared for the worst and not have needed to do it than to have needed to prepare and have not done so. Julian Gregori, whether or not you agree with all of his beliefs, has provided the most comprehensive "checklist" of any one person or resource that I have found. I purchased a dozen copies of this book and have handed them out to other members of my family and close friends. Mr. Gregori has helped me realize that the possible consequences of NOT preparing are simply not an option for myself and my loved ones. He is organized and thoughtful in his preparedness checklist. He gives specific names, phone numbers, addresses to help you. By far it is the best book on the subject that I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intelligently written book on y2k., January 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: What Will Become of Us....Counting Down to Y2k (Paperback)
Although I have researched the y2k problem now for over 5 months and have become somewhat informed and articulate on the matter, I still found it difficult to convince my friends and family to prepare for what may become, to say the least, a major change in their lives. I soon realized that by giving them this book to read, they have become very responsive and are readily making preparations. The book can be read in one sitting and is very intelligently written. Put it on your y2k list of books to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt...A must read book!, January 5, 1999

A harsh reality of events to come is sometimes hard to accept. For example, maybe a hurricane or tornado heading your way with little time to prepare can leave you wondering the outcome of your future. This book for the most part spells it out plainly and clearly. Time.....something we now have very little of remaining to prepare. Being a prudent individual at this time may be good advice. His book states many possibilities and scenario's worth considering!

5.0 out of 5 stars We're GIVING it away to our potential customers!, January 4, 1999

We are in the process of building a "millenniumneighborhood" - essentially a Y2K safe haven in NE Georgia calledMoonRising.

As soon as I finished reading this book I picked up the phone and called the publishers to discuss promotional reprints of the book sponsored by our Y2K project.

We like the way Gregori synthesized the practical issues surrounding Y2K without being unduly alarmist or a doomsayer.

If I were to publish a Y2K guide, this is pretty much what I would have done (although I would probably have left out the "Christian pastor" push - this is everybody's problem). Other books currently on the market do not supply the same information in the concise manner in which Gregori presents it.

I am a computer consultant who gets paid over $200,000 per year for my advice. This advice you get for free... buy this book and read it! It is my opinion that there is no way on earth that companies will have converted their code by the year 2000. The next question is what will happen... this author paints a very honest picture and one that you miss reading at your peril.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy only one Y2K book----buy this one!, November 22, 1998

Sit down in a comfortable chair, have on the end table an empty cup, a thermos of coffee, - and in your hands - this book. You'll finish the 235 pages before the coffee runs out. You'll gulp the last bit the coffee pondering the statistical and highly researched facts that you've just read, returning the empty thermos to your kitchen, all the while soberly planning the survival techniques you will put into place before the end of 1999. It's been called "The book that could save your life" - and it could!

2.0 out of 5 stars Someone seems to be Looking Forward to Y2K, November 23, 1998

The author fits squarely into a believer of the worst-case y2k scenario. He sees a dramatic collapse of civilization as we know and hints more than once that this is probably a good thing (given current morals, work ethic, reliance on government, intrusion by government into daily lives, etc.)

His presentation is often rambling as he drifts from one topic to another (occasionally ranting on one of his pet peeves).

His main justification for y2k collapse is that organizations started too late -- based on a "latest start fix date" of 1997 that one particular y2k guru made up. His other justification seems to be that no one has "proven to him" that it won't happen. Unfortunately he buries his strongest argument that there will be serious failures (due to embedded chip malfunctions) halfway through the book. This important argument is not mentioned outside if that chapter but his own weaker "not proven to me" argument is repeated time and again.

In places, he tries to take a Christian view to the problem which I respect. Unfortunately, his attitude seems to be that if the pastor of your church doesn't believe you and organize something unspecified when you first raise the issue, then you should keep quiet and look after your own family (moving to the country). I would have thought that the Christian approach would involve trying to persuade many more people to prepare for the potential disruption so that they might weather the storm as best possible.

He does provide a number of sources and good suggestions for preparing for Jan 2000 in his appendices. There is useful information even if you believe in a more moderate y2k scenario -- but the author certainly assumes that only those that move to rural locations have a hope of surviving. By way of illustration, a food supply of 3 years is a bare minimum with him.

Conclusion: someone who is not already convinced of calamity will dismiss this book the ravings of a survivalist. For a better (and more convincing) presentation of the Y2k risks, consider getting Yourdan's Timebomb 2000 or Hyatt's Millenium bug. These books give more convicing arguments to the uniniated on y2k problems and they present a more realistic range of scenarios.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Valuable Info on Y2K Currently Available., October 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: What Will Become of Us....Counting Down to Y2k (Paperback)
Gregori's latest book has been well researched and well written. He not only quotes leading experts to prove that y2k exists, but goes on to add 11 appendices to help EVERYONE prepare for Y2K. He also puts the latest info on his website and includes a list of other links, resources and books to help prepare for the Y2K crisis.

Y2k will cause major problems, but thanks to Gregori's book, you now have a choice as to whether or not these problems will affect YOU.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book could save your life !, September 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: What Will Become of Us....Counting Down to Y2k (Paperback)
Gregori's book was my first step in Y2K preparations. I like the "why not prepare just in case" approach. Julian shares historical cases where large numbers of people did not take action when they had fair warning and perished. Read it, act on it and get a copy in the hands of all those you love - JUST IN CASE it does come true. I would then recommend you follow-up on the suggestion of the book recommended on page 132.
