This review is from: What is a Wommett: The Autobiography of Mick Abrahams (Hardcover)
To me Mick Abrahams has always been underrated as a guitarist and perhaps fits in the same category as Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown or Peter Frampton or Steve Marriot of Humble Pie, other underrated guitarists. It's unfortunate that they have entered the music world at the same time as the titans such as Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Page and Peter Green have in the realm of blues/rock guitar. Mick has been one of my influences in my studies of British Blues musicians. He also is a formidable singer in the same vein as perhaps Chris Youlden of Savoy Brown.
Mick provides us a great picture of what life was like back then growing up in England amongst the flowering music scene. He also provides the reader with a sometime hilarious reminiscence of experiences that he encountered in his musical journey. He does touch on the seriousness of his life as well and provide good introspection as to what he has learned from it. If you are a fan of his music (stand-alone) as well as Blodwyn Pig and Jethro Tull I truly believe that you will enjoy this. To Mick: "Cheer's 'mate!" with respect to writing a wonderful book. Thanks for allowing me to take the journey into your adventurous path! |
