Editorial Reviews

Review

Vernon uses anecdotes to help provide the basics of different counseling techniques, and addresses internalizing problems, developmental problems, and emotive behavior. The book also includes suggestions for well-crafted activities to supplement standard therapy techniques. --Youth Today, The Newspaper on Youth Work

While many existing books discuss the theoretical orientations of different therapies, there are far fewer that describe specific techniques for use with children and adolescents. Dr. Vernon fills this void. . . . a well-written guide that many clinicians will find useful. --Erin Clark and Ray Christner, Communique

This is by far one of the most practicul books I have purchased since starting my studies as a MFT. I know that this will help me further my career as a therapsit as it has lots of useful tools to use while working with clients. The book is for children and adolescents but I can see that it could be just as useful with adults. Great choice!!

This book is a great resource that gives a counselor concrete activities to do with youngsters that help them begin analyzing their way of thinking. It employs the theory of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and provides a lot of ready-to-use techniques. Thanks Ann Vernon!

It's hard to choose a book online, especially when you can't flip the pages and get a feel for the material. I am SO happy with this choice, however. There are great activities, transcribed counseling sessions with teenagers and interesting advice. A good book to have (and KEEP!) on the shelf in your counseling space.

This is one of my favorite resources for individual techniques. Unlike some exercises, the ones in this book are quick to put together and don't require a bunch of weird materials to complete. The book also provides you with lots of good background information about CBT and working with children/adolescents in general.
