4.0 out of 5 stars Good charity song...
I like this one. It was a good idea for a charity single. It shows the vocal skills of the contestants, and how good they sound together. I think it was a good idea to release this as a charity single. I prefer this one over God Bless The USA because G/B/T/USA is very plain, where as this is a well arranged song and the vocals are amazing!! It's very captivating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Elimination of Ricky
The first track was just OK and I bought it just because of Clay but the second should NOT have had Ricky Smith shreaking in the background. He is horrible and it's understandable why he wasn't in the top performers. He drowns everyone out with his horrible squeeling voice and a very big disappointment. Surely this will be the last we hear of him and why pair him with...

This single contains the version w/ all 10, and a version with only Clay, Ruben, and Rickey singing it, and that version is amazing too!! The guys sound awesome together!

This song can also be found on AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 2 : ALL TIME CLASSIC AMERICAN LOVE SONGS. Enjoy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, despite track two, June 11, 2003

While I think this song is just OKAY (sorry, Burt Bacharach), I think the arrangement and the kids' sound is great. That Clay starts out this one shows that they obviously realized who has undeniable talent in the group.

While the first track is just lovely, I was a little disappointed with the second one too. Clay and Ruben sound all right, and Ricky for the most part sounds okay, but when he gets to the squealing part of his upper register, I cringed until I had to turn it off. I'm sure Ricky is a fine singer, it was just a poor arrangment, like another poster said, like it was thrown together just to put another song on the CD, leading to a disjointed recording.

Still, both tracks are good for AI fanatics. Of course, you could just buy the Classic American Love Songs CD and get both What the World Needs Now and God Bless the U.S.A., but then Red Cross wouldn't get any donations!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what It Seems, March 4, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: What World Needs Now Is Love (Audio CD)
I recently purchased this CD thinking it was naturally the best but I was proved wrong. All I can say is Thank God For CLAY AIKEN. I keep listening to it because of him, he is the best of them all including Season 1. Track one literally sucks. Track 2 is great only because Clay sings more in it. The part about sunbeams get me everytime. If you buy it don't pay over four dollars for it but if you love Clay it's a must have.<BR...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Contestants, Nice Song., May 27, 2003

The single itself is good. The final 10 voices meld together nicely on Bacharach's new arrangement of his classic song...especially the end part with lots of lovely, overlapping harmony. The second version, with only Clay, Ruben and Rickey seems like a hastily thrown-together b-side. All three have wonderful voices, but they all sound disjointed and out of place in this arrangement. And.....if any American Idol higher ups are reading this, why isn't Ruben's first single "Imagine" and Clay's first single "Bridge Over Troubled Water?" With a television show that stressed the importance of song selection, I am surprised with both songs selected as first singles for Clay and Ruben.

4.0 out of 5 stars It has Clay, It's great!, June 6, 2003

Let's make this short... This single has a great song that gets stuck in your head a lot, right? So you'd think it would be amazingly annoying and you'd hate it? Well guess what, Clay Aiken has at least 4 solos on this CD all together. That makes it absolutely wonderful!

As you can tell, I'm a Clay fan, but even if you're a Ruben fan or you don't even watch the show, it's a great CD.

The only thing that I think may have messed the second remdition of "What the World Needs Now" on this single, is that the three that are singing are Rickey Smith, Ruben Studdard, and Clay Aiken. Clay and Ruben are both great singers(Clay is better though!) but Rickey should not have been put with them. I mean, Rickey probably shouldn't have even gotten to the top 12!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Single, March 24, 2004

So, some people are definatley weak on this song, but at least they all can sing, unlike season 1 where only two people could sing. an even so, clay saves the whole thing with his wonderful voice. kim c and trenyce arent bad either, those three together should have recorded one by themselves. all in all, it was really cute.

Clay begins...and you know it will be terrific. When you hear Trenyce and K-Lo, you get chills, and it's all good until Julia hits the last note. I recomend to everyone!
Track two is an unbelievable trio by Ruben, Clay, and Ricky. All three are incredible and...damn Ricky can sing!
10/10

This is a fine compilation CD that makes all the finalists sound so wonderful. I especially liked "At Last" by Julia. A good cover version of each song by each artist. What great talent!

He is horrible and it's understandable why he wasn't in the top performers. He drowns everyone out with his horrible squeeling voice and a very big disappointment. Surely this will be the last we hear of him and why pair him with such a beautiful outstanding voice such as Clay? I don't understand it but hopefully some money went to a very good cause and not disappointed in spending the money, just with Ricky.
