5.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop that's about something worthwhile!
I've been so sick of hip hop recently. I'm a huge fan of hip hop, but all the talk about "Bling Bling" and having so much money and women and cars has become SOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring, repetitive, and IRRATITING! I can commend them for at least trying to put some meaning into the song, which they did, but doesn't that one line get a little too repetitive? They sum up the message 40 some odd times in a 3 minute song with one elongated sentence.

But City High's debut song "What Would You Do" is nothing like that. It's meaningful, catchy, and has a really positive message! I've got to get the whole CD because I'm sure that the rest of the album is like this. THANK YOU CITY HIGH FOR PUTTING SOMETHING MEANINGFUL IN HIP HOP! It's been lacking originality and realness for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not preachy, thought-provoking, May 30, 2001

I'm not a huge R&B fan, but I love this single because it combines musical talent and a really thought-provoking message. Instead of either saying "a stripper lifestyle is wrong" or "you can't help who you are," it really makes you think about the extent to which who we are is determined by what we do, or what is done to us. If you were abused until you ran away from home, abandoned by your boyfriend, unable to get a job, and forced to take care of a child, "what would you do?" What I really like about the song is that it doesn't give you a pat answer - instead, it forces you to decide for yourself. Plus, the song is musically very catchy & well-written. While I wouldn't call "What Would You Do?" a POSITIVE song - I actually cried when I first heard it, the first time ANY song has provoked that - it is certainly a thoughtful and beautiful one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Moral Balance, June 8, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: What Would You Do / Tba (Audio CD)
Whenever I turn on my radio, I hear entire playlists that are nothing but bubblegum pop. City High's "What Would You Do?" was a new song that was both refreshing and disturbing. This song illustrates the reality that many young, single parents face...and asks all judgmental people to stop and reconsider. The young woman sings that her son's daddy (apparently not married to her) is absent and no help whatsoever. The lyrics don't support the jobs that some single parents (men AND women)are forced to hold down, but do try to show that the people doing the jobs society condemns ARE still people, with feelings and reasons for taking their jobs, often very sad reasons. At the same time, the man singing with the girl presents a moral balance. He says that his own mother managed to take care of her children without taking a job like the young woman's, and that it IS possible to hold a decent job when single and a mother/father. This song, to be honest, explores the worlds of single parents who are left to raise their children. The song DOES discuss a topic that is rather controversial, but this is no "Lady Marmalade." This is a moral lesson within a song--and worth a listen (but this is not for young children...see above).

Remember the little boy in Sister Act II with Lauryn Hill. He finally made it. This album is incredible. Pay close attention to the lyrics; there are good messages behind them. This is wonderful!

I can not believe that MTV has not picked up on this great song. My friends and I had been singing it for months before it was being played. I haven't heard it on the radio and thats too bad because these guys are very talented and deserve to be in the spot light. I am disapointed that MTV hasn't given them the credit that they deserve. If your with me on this BUY THIS SINGLE you will not regret it!!
