This review is from: What You Don't Know (Audio CD)
Don Chaffer is one of the best song writers I have heard lately. He has this amazing ability to tell a story and craft words just right, so that you actually feel the emotion of the lyrics. Although some Christian artist may shy away from certain subjects, Don Chaffer has no problem addressing them, and showing them in an appropriate manner, (i.e. the whole of "Bring the Sadness Back In."
I must admit though, I do skip songs on this CD ("Man, I'm Gonna Sing", "People Go By Like A Flame", and "What You Don't Know"), but as a whole it is an amazing album. Not that the lyrics in the skipped songs aren't great, but more so the music doesn't draw me in as it does in all of the others. The rest of the songs are brilliant, beautiful, and poignant. Never have I been so moved by music before as with "John Henry Where'd You Go". It actually made me cry!
Overall, it's probably the most emotionally charged album that Don Chaffer has been involved in, lyrically and musically (at least from my outsider's perspective). I've come to prefer Chaffer acoustic stuff thanks to What You Don't Know. It's beautiful.
