Coming into his own,

BIG fan of his father, I've been listening to Dweezil since his earliest outings with Frank's band. Saw him on the "Zappa Plays Zappa" tour. While that was immensely satisfying, I was hoping that Dweezil would continue building his own legacy. He has!
I have enjoyed all of his CD's, but I think this is his best. While his skill as a guitarist was never in doubt, his skill as a composer and producer is now truly evident. There is no doubt that he is coming into his own as a composer, and that's what I enjoy most about this CD -- new, really well-written compositions. Two nods to Frank: a "duet" version of Peaches and a practice session for the Inca Roads guitar solo. My least favorite tracks on the CD, but Joe Travers (drums) breathes inspiration into that simple Inca Roads riff that is very impressive. Not that either of these two tracks are "bad", but the rest is just that much better. If Dweezil continues this level of committment to his music, and given the pattern of his career there's no reason to doubt that he will, I can't wait for his next CD!

DZ composed and played most of the sounds on this fantastic recording. Alot of the time it sounds like a Zappa - a more accessible watered down version of his father perhaps - but modern, fresh, alive and creative none the less. There is some pedestrian playing here (Van Halenish riffs) but there's also some really beautiful sounds, played with a nice balance of tribute to the incomprable, irreplaceable FZ and to his own particular muse. (We get alot of FZ inspired guitar tones and rhythms composed/arranged in Dweezil's own way, and DZ tends towards prettier arrangements than his father.)
I saw DZ and the Zappa Plays Zappa tour in Seattle (can't wait to see the DVD made that night!) last month and was blown away by the faithful spirit of the playing. Once they got warmed up they were really on, giving it their heart and soul. It'll be interesting to see how DZ continues to balance this desire to play and promote his Dad's legacy and develop his own. It's an interesting phenomena.... and worth getting this CD to see how it's beginning. My personal favorites here are when he sounds more like himself...I was excited to hear him play along with the original tape of Peaches and Regalia, but it turned out to be one of the CD's weaker tracks. Thats a good thing and sez alot.

DZ as it would appear, woodshedded himself away, hired the teachers out there three years ago.. they taught him how to read music and he found out how to write music.
this cd shows that off quite a bit. I saw the Zappa plays Zappa tour in Houston, and DZ was just great. Zappa fans should get ready because I bet that DZ will be starting a new life in music.... it has 'hit him' The arrangements of songs vary quite a bit. You have eddie van halen sounds on one song then you have a very large map of music. I like all of it, but it helps to see him play live. Have fun.

Dweezil shines,

Wow, The Dweez really smokes on this release. Only one song features any vocals the rest are all instrumental and really showcase his guitar playing styles. At 52 minutes it is somewhat on the short side but I would rather have a shorter high quality record than a bloated 74 minute release with a lot of filler, there's not a weak track in the bunch here.
It would appear that Dweezil intends to release records less frequently than his Dad did which may be a good thing as I think he has a great career ahead of him and I look forward to following it.

Dweezil is not Frank Zappa,

I bought this because of "ALL ROADS LEAD TO INCA" which is beautiful, and relays a sophistication of Frank Zappa in his "Shut Up And Play Your Guitar" series. Dweezil is appearantly from a harder rock era than his dad, and the compositions are intense but without the maturity. Recording and sound quality is excellent though. I think Dweezil has the makings of a great musician in the future (from 2006)

Typical Dweezil on this outing and by that I do not mean anything less than spectacular.
This album is a varied exciting venture into the world of all things Zappa. Frank would be proud! I hope some of this stuff (as well as his other solo material) gets played live when he does the Zappa Plays Zappa shows ....... I wish there were more artists being as bold & daring as Dweezil is ..... I also wish Blues Saraceno (who guests on this album) would put out another guitar record!

My hat is off to Dweezil for being unpredictable in a good way. This release is well worth the money in my estimation. I would love to hear this remastered for vinyl or eight track tape someday. (Just kidding about the eight track part...)
I met Dweezil once after a local ZPZ concert a few years back. It is my hope that he can continue to put out more product like GWWYK as well as the ZPZ. Thank you Mr. Z.

Good Album, Dweezil's Guitar intellect comes out on most tracks, his version of Peaches En Regalia is pretty cool and it has a nice ending.

This is my first Dweezil Zappa CD, and let me tell you it is awesome! At first listen, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but it grows on you. Listen to the entire CD and you'll agree he's all that and then some... definitely has those musical Zappa genes!

Syntheziers a little to much, but great writing and playing from DZ,
This review is from: Go With What You Know (Audio CD)
Like I said this album is great but a little to much syntheziers for my taste! I have every DZ album and can't get enough of him and his work, and definitely encourage guitar lovers to listen and buy his other albums! This album has good range from heavy to slow and tripie, and the writing is a step up from his last album wich I believe was music for pets with Ahmet(wich was a dissapointment in every way)! If you like guitar albums such as Vinnie Moore, Tony Mcalpine, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, and other guitar greats you will love this album and appreciate Dweezil's great playing through out this album! The highlight is a remake of an old Frank song called peaches en regalia witch I have another recording of DZ doing it live with Steve Morses old band The Dixie Dreggs!
