5.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore Hardboiled At Its Best, June 7, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: What You Pay For (Paperback)
What You Pay For is a collection of 11 linked stories featuring Jack Hagee, private detective. Hagee is a hardboiled detective who does not take any nonsense from anybody. These are also quite violent stories with lots of vulgarity. Not for the squeamish. As one who likes hardcore hardboiled detective fiction, Jack Hagee is one of my all time favorite fictional detectives.

Fully recommended.

THERE WAS SOMETHING familiar in the way the sun hit the railings along the turnpike; it was a reflecting red - the kind they use on the walls of family restaurants, the shade a cabbie's neck turns when he spots his customers really enjoying their ride. Read the first page
