Seems like the last 8 reviews were done by a very bitter, upset person. FYI, if you are going to send in multiple reviews, convince us that it was done by 8 different people and if they are going to be negative reviews, put some work into it.
I was never a fan of No Doubt, but I am loving her solo stuff. What You Waiting for is without a doubt the best song on the album making the others seem a bit less, but overall I enjoy the album and plan on buying this single soon. Despite those series of 1 star reviews done by 1 person, I would personally say Gwen Stefani's stuff is worth your money.

The first time that I heard this single, I was super disappointed. The more that I have heard it, though, the more I have fell in love with it. Go Gwen!

One of the best songs from the album on the first single. Brilliant.
The 2 mixes from Jacques Lu Cont are a great 8 minute ones with an 80's feeling. And the extended video is soo extraordinary. I have just only two questions, why don't they released this single as a DVD, and why don't they put a B-side song on it? Maybe they will on the Rich girl single.

When I first heard this song on the radio I thought, "You have GOT to be kidding?" and then I saw the video on TV and my second thought was, "Dear God Gwen's on Prozac whilst writing her songs now, someone get that girl SOME serious help!"
However I have to admit the song and the video has grown on me very quickly, I think she sings it in a VERY tongue in cheek way and Gwen's sultry high pitched voice does the lyrics and the tune justice. I was quite startled by the vitriolic criticism that other reviewers have directed at this particular song, okay so the lyrics aren't thought provoking and the video is quite surreal but that makes it all the more interesting. The Japanese girls in the video with Gwen are great with their immobile but quite beautiful faces watching the blonde singer as she struts her stuff in outrageous outfits combined with those equally if not more outrageous shoes that most women would secretly kill for! And then there is the Alice in Wonderland theme, it's just so delicious! Keep writing and singing Gwen, you'll always have a fan in me, no matter how wonderfully strange your songs are!

I love it, I think Gwen Stefani is an amazing and creative songwriter. She is a no fluf-tell my thoughts like they are songwriter and I think that is great! She wanted to have fun on this album and you can tell she probably had a blast! 5 stars!!!

Finally near the end of 2004, a darn good single appears in the form of Gwen Stefani's What Ya Waiting For. More dance rock than alternative, this is a hell of a song. A cross between electronica, dance and rock, Linda Perry and Nelle Hooper has crafted a pop perfection that fits Gwen Stefani's eccentricity and pompousness. This is Miss Stefani at her best. The video is an ecletic mix of visuals too.
If anyone should likely be a good emulator of Madonna, Gwen Stefani is the closest. The Jacques Lu Cont Mix here spices things up a little with some steady dance filler beats but not as good as the vinyl-only mixes Armand Van Helden which lean towards hardcore break beats. If this single is a sign of things to come on the album, it would have been perfect. But looking at the slew of hip hop producers on board, it's clear that the record company and Gwen has settled for the pedestrian ghetto American stuff.

Borrowing liberally from Weezer's "Hash Pipe," Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop" and the kind of scintilating dance pop Madonna used to put out monthly, Gwen Stefani delivers one of the best singles of the year. It catches you and doesn't let go. I bought the wretched "Love Angel Music Baby" CD in the hopes that the rest of the album would at least be in the vicinity of the single's pop perfection. Boy, was I wrong.
Save yourself the money and the migrane for the full L.A.M.B., and get this maxi-single instead. And know that at least this one song gives hope that Gwen hasn't completely lost touch with her talent. |
