refreshing, and quite stunning, February 15, 2001

well i have read the Q review of the cd 'test, don't test' by attica blues, and in short, we are to prepare to replace portishead's 'dummy' with this attica blues release......NOT SO FAST! i must say, it would have to be quite an achievement to be able to top dummy; having said that, 'test, don't test' is very deserving of our attention and respect. it does not dwell exclusively in the trip hop genre, rather it offers an eclectic and quite excellent mixture of jazz, hip hop, sampling and most of all, gorgeous r&b vocal. [influence of early massive attack perhaps?] 'what do you want' is one of the best singles off this cd, in my humble opinion, but there are many many other highlights --- this is a worthwhile purchase: a thoroughly refreshing, brave, and immensely enjoyable musical experience. thank you so much for reading.
