5.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Very Good!!!!, April 20, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: What You Want (Audio CD)
I am by no means a Debbie Gibson fan, but this song is actually very good! Much better than anything else I've heard from her. Is a good pop/r&b song. Unfortunately, the single didn't get the airplay it deserved, I guess because DJ's didn't take the one time teen queen seriously. They didn't want to adknowledge the fact that she is now a grown woman and her music is more mature- not the bubblegum stuff she did in the 80's.

5.0 out of 5 stars "What You Want" is this infectious Dance-Pop song, March 8, 2005

1. "What You Want" 10/10
2. "Comes Right Back (Campfire Mix) 8/10

I really did not know much about this vocalist/songwriter until I heard this single. I quickly became a fan of hers. She has a charismatic, strong, smooth voice that is distinctive. This single will easily make you a Deborah fan if you are already into Dance-Pop music. "What You Want" is similar to "All I Want Is You (Come On Over)" by Christina Aguilera and "Irresistible" by Jessica Simspon, so you know this is gonna be really enjoyable! I like the B-side song "Comes Right Back" as well, it's a nice acustic pop song. So, if you are a fan of their work or songs from any other Dance-Pop artist, you will love "What You Want"! Recommended to any and all Dance-Pop music lovers!

5.0 out of 5 stars KILLER TRACK!, March 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: What You Want (Audio CD)
This single is great and so is her new album "MYOB." Get it. Get it all. WHAT YOU WANT is an agressive pop/r&b track that reminds me of NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye." If you like that song, then BUY BUY BUY this single... and her album. It's killer!

4.0 out of 5 stars "What You Want" Is What We Want: Secret Weapon Hit for Deb!, November 1, 2000
This review is from: What You Want (Audio CD)
Deborah Gibson returns to the pop music scene in her finest form since the late 80s. WHAT YOU WANT has proven itself to be a versatile pop/dance/R&B hit. It has already received airplay in some of the hottest & most happenin' states in the country, such as New York, Florida, and California. WHAT YOU WANT was declared a "secret weapon hit" of the year by BILLBOARD MAGAZINE, the bible of the music industry. Further, WHAT YOU WANT ranked in the top 20 dance playlist for a station in California as published in the November issue of DANCE MUSIC AUTHORITY Magazine (DMA). This single has all the potential to make a big impact. The B-side is a refreshing acoustic song, featuring Deborah's vocals and harmonies backed by simple guitars and percussion. Be one of the early leaders of the pack and get this CD while it's still growing in popularity. WHAT YOU WANT hits right on the bull's eye. You will be blown away once you hear this cutting edge, slick track.

It is so cool to hear Deborah back in the swing of things. As always she continues to bring us GREAT music. I have been a fan of hers since the "Out of the Blue" days. I have followed her career and NEVER been disappointed by anything that she does. She is a ture sign of someone that has worked hard and come a long way. This song rocks, the beat is great. Keep up the excellent work Deborah.

5.0 out of 5 stars DEBORAH "DEBBIE" GIBSON IS BACK AND YOU WONT BELIEVE ITS HER, October 18, 2000

Deborahs first single "What You Want" from the forthcoming album title M.Y.O.B. (Mind Your Own Business) is a refreshing r&b flavored dance track.

Deborahs voice is in its finest pop form. The production is top notch with remix credits to Tony Moran. Deborahs single is getting noticed, it has been well received at KTU FM in New York getting rotation play, has reached the Top 20 at KDUK in Eugene, Oregon where it has reached Top 5 Most Requested, and has reached as high as No.2 most requested song on several radio stations.

Put your prejudices aside and listen to this song and give Ms. Gibson a chance. Forget the Debbie you once knew with "Electric Youth", she is all grown up, and it shows on the sexy/contemporary jacket of the single which tells you there is much more inside.

"What You Want" has gotten rave reviews from Billboard Magazine saying it could be "The Secret Weapon Hit of the Year". This r&b dance infected number has a great chorus and a break toward the end of the song - where you would swear it was Janet Jacksons vocals. The only drawback is the B Side, the song "Comes Right Back" is bland/dismal at best and does not fit the format of the single. They should of released "You Belong To Me" another R&B infected song as the B Side.

Otherwise Deborah could be back on the charts soon with "What You Want"....and that is what she is doing giving you "What You Want",....Britney- look, listen and learn and you too could have a pop music career 13 years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational Single, January 18, 2001
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: What You Want (Audio CD)
I'm a 60-year-old Deborah Gibson devotee. She committed the ultimate sin for a teen sensation, of course, in growing up. But unlike other sensations who have totally faded away she's kept in there, producing a series of superlative albums, each more impressive than the previous. This is a totally sensational single displaying both Gibson's outstanding composing talents and her growth as a singer. It's just a matter of time before the world discovers her anew and MYOB, with its provocative title and great cover, just might be the album to do the job. The biggest misstep in her career was the off-putting cover of "Anything Is Possible" which took a fresh-faced, appealing, out there young lady and made her look like someone who was in throes of depression and not very well dressed either. The album inside the cover had nothing to WITH the cover--it was bouncy, thoughtful, surprising, thrilling. Whatever was in Atlantic's mind? Covers are important! The new album looks to have everything Deborah needs to have people sit up and take notice. Here is a major talent who really has only just begun. By the way, amzon.com needs to combine its Debbie Gibson and Deborah Gibson listings. Debster, you have a lot to be proud of, and we your audience have a lot to thank you for.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT! But not different..., October 30, 2000

Madonna Forever (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: What You Want (Audio CD)
Deborah Gibson's latest single "What You Want" is an excellent track and I really enjoy it, however, if you are a true Debbie/Deborah fan you would realize that she's not that far from most of the tracks on "Body Mind and Soul," her "flop" record after "Electric Youth". It has some modern beats, but can easily fit in on that record and never be noticed....
