5.0 out of 5 stars Characters that grab you right from the beginning!
I loved this book. I have recommended it to all of my friends and family already. Ms. Coakley-Thompson has the ability to create believable characters that I actually *cared* about and couldn't wait until my "ME" time at the end of the day to return to the book. It is a fast paced book, and I found myself casting the characters, wishing this would be made into a movie...

3.0 out of 5 stars A slow start, but finishes nicely
This novel by Wendy Coakley-Thompson focuses on an attraction between older woman Chaney and younger man Devin, who happens to be a veterinarian. Cousins by marriage (her sister married his cousin), it is not the former family relationship that bothers Chaney in regards to her attraction to Devin. I loved this book. I have recommended it to all of my friends and family already. Ms. Coakley-Thompson has the ability to create believable characters that I actually *cared* about and couldn't wait until my "ME" time at the end of the day to return to the book. It is a fast paced book, and I found myself casting the characters, wishing this would be made into a movie. If you are familiar with the D.C. area at all, that's an added bonus... I could actually see the places the characters visited and talked about in my mind. Terry McMillan needs to watch her back - Ms. Coakley-Thompson can REALLY write...her plots are interesting, the dialogue flows... what more can I say? Walk, don't run to your nearest book store and buy this book. If you have a book club, add this book to the list. You will not regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Awesome--Did I say this book was awesome!?, November 15, 2005
Loved it. This book was so real, and I just fell in love with Devin! I didn't finish the author's first book but I'm picking it up off my bookshelf today! This is the kind of stuff I like to read--I stayed up way past my bed time to finish this one. Keep them coming, Wendy! I can't wait for the next one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, September 14, 2006
This was a great read, I was sorry it came to an end. I would to read a sequel, the characters seem so real it was spooky.
I look forward to reading Back to Life and all future works of WCT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money well spent, April 22, 2006
This is another book I enjoyed and most definitely would read again, although it did take some time for them to come together. Devin was hot, and Chaney made me laugh out loud sometimes. They both had issues to deal with, both within their families and at work. By the end of the book, things were looking up for both of them.... Hated for this book to come to an end. Wendy needs to put out another book with the quickness!

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful love story..., April 5, 2006
This is a wonderful book. I loved all the characters in this story. I liked the fact that the characters were well developed and that you got chance to really get to know them. Chaney and Devin are hot. It is wonderful to see an older woman and a younger man. I thought that the author did a great job of detailing the sniper terrorist that occurred in DC.

Rather, Chaney looks at biracial Devin as cute but young and doesn't initially give her attraction to him much credence. Brought together initially by the dog Chaney is babysitting for her sister, the first half of the book focuses on their separate lives and intermittent interactions centered around the dog. Each has family and work issues that are consuming their lives.

After a rather slow start, the story finally picks up and heats up in the second half and takes off on a more interesting run as Chaney and Devin explore their attraction in greater depth.

This book was interesting but a bit slow in parts for my liking.

The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
In Wendy Coakley-Thompson's WHAT YOU WON'T DO FOR LOVE, readers are introduced to Chaney Braxton, a partner in an e-learning firm. After the death of her parents and a failed engagement, Chaney decides she doesn't want anything to do with plants (because she manages to kill them all), pets (because she had to compete with one to garner the attention of one of her exes) or men (because of her ex-fiancé). Unfortunately, she has to scratch one item off her list when her sister Daisy ships her dog, Tony, to Chaney to care for while she is out of town. For some strange reason, she cannot find the strength nor the courage to tell her sister "no."

Anna Lisa, Chaney's older sister and the matriarch of the family since the death of their parents, makes an appointment for Tony at the clinic of half black, half Korean veterinarian Devin Rhym. When Chaney sees Devin for the first time the instant attraction she feels is uncanny. She is, after all, thirty-six and he's just a mere twenty-eight, you do the math. The two form a friendship and over a period of time eventually become lovers.

When Devin, who has a slew of issues of his own, finds out that Chaney has been harboring a secret from him, he feels betrayed, but he soon realizes that he's the one at fault. Chaney is always there when he needs a shoulder to cry on; however, when the tables are turned he does not reciprocate the favor. Will Chaney and Devin ever find a common ground and come together as one?

WHAT YOU WON'T DO FOR LOVE is an awe-inspiring novel of finding one's soul mate. Chaney and Devin were constantly at each other's throat one minute and madly in love the next. You know the old saying "opposites attract." In her sophomore effort Coakley-Thompson shares another story surrounding interracial relationships and how they in essence impact the lives of the couples involved.

4.0 out of 5 stars What You Won't Do For Love by Wendy Coakley-Thompson: An PeoplewholoveGoodBooks Review, October 31, 2005
What You Won't Do For Love by Wendy Coakley-Thompson is a romantic story about love, betrayal, family, and self-acceptance. When 36-year old Chaney Braxton agrees to take care of her sister's dog, Tony, little does she know that her life is about to be forever changed. Devin Rhyme is a 28-year old biracial veterinarian who still longs for his father's acceptance and trying to find his place in his culturally mixed and diverse family. Thanks to his decision not to follow in the footsteps of his father and brothers and enter law, his relationship with his father is rocky. Chaney is afraid to love again after finding out her fiancé is gay, so she focuses her time on her career and her love for making beauty products. Chaney and Devin start off as friends and they both have dating mishaps and disasters, until they both realize what they were looking for was right there all along. Devin learns to step out of his father's shadow, be his own man and forgive his father for the past. Chaney learns to look past their age difference and accept her love for Devin. This is the first book that I've read by Wendy Coakley-Thompson but it certainly won't be the last, What You Won't Do For Love is a wonderful, sweet, yet satisfying story with something for everyone: romance, drama, sexy love scenes, and friendship. It is a must-read!! I give this book 4 stars. Reviewed by Shay C of PeoplewholoveGoodBooks

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, April 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I loved reading this book! I borrowed the book from my local library and decided to buy it after I finished reading it. I live in DC and the author's description of the city and the DC sniper attacks were dead on. Even if you're not familiar with DC life, you'll enjoy reading this book. I could also relate to Chaney's and Devin's story and their journey to finding love. I would recommend this book to people who love romance novels but are in the mood for something with more substance.

I really enjoyed this book and the places it took me. I loved the characters and their families. The story felt very real and even had me emotional at times. I have read her other book and must say this one is my favorite. I hope that Wendy Coakley-Thompson writes more IR stories. I am going to tell my friends to read this book.
