Beautiful music,
This review is from: What You'd Call a Dream (Audio CD)
Jaymie Meyer is a new discovery for me and I'm very glad to have found her. The beauty and clarity of her voice rivals that of any singer today. The laid back casual arrangements allow her voice to shine! This is true "easy listening" that immediately puts you in a good mood. I am looking forward to many future recordings from Ms. Meyer. This CD should be in the collection of anyone who likes smooth "cabaret style" music!

A Cabaret Lovers Dream Come True,
By Steven Martin (Chicago) - See all my reviews

From the moment I read the song titles, I new that this CD had the potential to be a special gift. What You'd Call a Dream is the perfect title for this CD, it is surely a dream come true. Ms. Meyer's rich lush voice is so pleasing to the ear that since receiving it nearly 2 weeks ago, I just can't seem to stop listening to it. Turn the lights down low, cuddle in close to your favorite buddy and let Ms. Meyer take you along on a beautifully romantic ride.

Best CD of the year.,
This review is from: What You'd Call a Dream (Audio CD)
For choice of interesting and fresh song material, for dramatic insight into those songs, for humor as well as sensitivity, and for a vocal instrument, Jaymie Meyer is way out there. Singing songs that a Billie Holiday might have chosen or a female Sinatra. Starting with "The Friendliest Thing Two People Can Do" on down the list of superior song material, this artist (for that is what Ms. Meyer is) distinguishes herself throughout. IfAmazon.com offered a 6 star rating, I would have accorded her that.

I put Jaymie Meyer's CD on my stereo one Saturday while I was cleaning my house -- but was forced to stop, sit and listen -- and during My Favorite Year I burst into tears at the delicate poignancy of her rendition. The CD is a beautiful, wistful and funny collection of songs... I recommend it highly to anyone who loves good stories.

An Incredible Find,

I cannot express my appreciation of this first CD by Ms. Meyer. Although she has a large body of theatrical and cabaret work to her credit, I had not heard of her until I happened to hear her perform on PBS radio early in December. I immediately went home to order her first CD. Her choice of music for this CD showcases her superb talent to make you feel the lyrics as though they were especially written to recall your own experiences. "Miss Byrd" is a comical composition that will bring a smile and, perhaps, remind you of some of your more uninhibited moments. Among the compositions that will touch your heart ("My Favorite Year" brought me to tears) include "It's the Little Things" and "My Mother Was A Singer". The lyrics to "The Lies of Handsome Men" is a song many women will immediately recognize as only too true. Ms Meyer's mezzo voice is well trained, but does not have the annoying tones of someone who would prefer to perform Italian arias. Her styling is perfect and the lyrics always beautifully clear. The arrangements are first rate. She is a cabaret singer of the highest quality. As someone who once "sang for her supper", I admire and envy her unique talent and her ability to choose music best suited to her. Music like this makes me long to live closer to New York City where she performs regularly. I cannot express my enthusiasm for this CD enough. I strongly recommend it to anyone who appreciates fabulous music, great lyrics and a singer who can express herself as well as Jaymie Meyer. Five stars is an injustice. I give the CD and the artist a perfect 10 and hope that this CD will be followed by many, many more.

Definitely what I would call a dream!,

As soon as I listened to the first phrase I was hooked! Not only does Ms. Meyer have a beautiful voice but you can tell that each song, whether comedic (Miss Byrd is hysterical) or serious is sung from the heart. The musical arrangement by Wes McAfee is terrific. In summation, buy this CD. You won't regret it.

"Some of the most moving songs I have ever heard.",

"What you'd call a dream" is a great song and, in this case, it's a great title for a masterful collection of songs from one Jaymie Meyer. Jaymie's voice is utterly delightful and she raises virtually every emotion (from laughter to loving, sorrow to joy)as she moves from one selection to another. According to the liner notes, Jaymie chooses her music according to the lyrics. I'm not surprised. These are some of the most moving songs I have ever heard. In some ways, they're poems as well as songs. If you don't believe me, check out gems like "It's The Little Things" or "Ship in a Bottle" or "The Friendliest Thing." Want to laugh 'til you cry? Listen to "Miss Byrd." Want to cry 'til you just feel good and sweet and utterly full right down to your heart? Check out the grand finale, "My Mother was a Singer." Ms. Meyer's musical accompaniment is superb as well. Great voice. Great arrangements. Great lyrics. Great selection. What else could one want? How about a second CD from Jaymie Meyer? I'm waiting. And I'm hoping. Get to know "What You'd Call A Dream" and I expect that you'll join the waiting/hoping crowd, too.

What You'd Call a Dream-y CD,
By A Customer
This review is from: What You'd Call a Dream (Audio CD)
This CD is filled with beautiful music, sung with passion and flair by Jaymie Meyer. From classics such as Irving Berlin's "I Got Lost in His Arms" to contemporary cabaret favorites, "What You'd Call a Dream" is an album well worth adding to your collection. My favorite track is "Miss Byrd" by David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jr., which is given a fun and zesty interpretation by Ms. Meyer. If you have a chance to catch this incredible singer in concert, you won't be disappointed. Until then, treat yourself to this recording!
