5.0 out of 5 stars What Your Childhood Memories Say About You
This is an excellent book to help you understand how your childhood memories effect your life today. Looking at the memories that stand out the most reveals aspects of your personality that help you understand why you do what you do, and also helps to look at if where you are is the best for you. Very well written book.

Great insights in this book! I like the way the Kevin Leman wraps many psychology concepts around this idea of reflecting on your own childhood to understand yourself a little better.

Educational for those with a casual interest in psychology and for those who don't normally think about their own childhood.

Great insights in this book! I like the way the Kevin Leman wraps many psychology concepts around this idea of reflecting on your own childhood to understand yourself a little better.

Educational for those with a casual interest in psychology and for those who don't normally think about their own childhood.

The first time the author talks about his adventures as a class clown and crowd entertainer it felt like he was opening up and letting us get to know him as person.

After he goes on several times about his comedic endeavors as a child and as an adult you get a real sense of what it would be like to hang out with him and it gives the book a very relaxed, personal feel.

After about the 30th reference (I'm not even exagerating...) to himself and his entertainer/comedy antics you start to wonder if the book is about himself and less about the subject he's writing about.

Ultimately the constant self references becomes gratuitious and distracting from what is an otherwise very interesting read.

I thought the idea of why we behave based on childhood memories was really interesting but I don't think it will help you solve all your life problems. Unfortunately sometimes knowledge of why you have low self esteem or certain fears doesn't mean you won't continue to have them.

3.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good product, December 25, 2008

This was quite different than I had imagined.
I has assumed it was going to be somewhat intense.
If you can imagine yourself at a dinner table in a restaurant with Dr. Leman wistfully chatting about his experiences, his boyhood memories, with a few technical tid-bits about how/why the brain captures some memories and not others sprinkled in...........then you get the general gist.

It is somewhat entertaining, and is kept pretty much at that level throughout.

Reading a few example pages from the book should help you decide:

4.0 out of 5 stars great book!, November 21, 2008
I really love this book! it is very informative and give you ideasof how to get to know yourself better and anilize your life from the begining. However I found that the author talks too much about himself and his childhood memories and experience. I would of preffer to have some more clear techniques to help me find my answers, not the author ones, and then by his try to find mine...that was kind of weird!

As always i find Dr. Kevin Lemans knowledge about childhood, self awareness, growing up etc. to be extremely insightful and very beneficial for myself. I highly recommend this book or audio CD in particular because our past really does affect who we are today and his material basically puts it all into perspective!!

There is a mind body connection. If you don't feel healthy or your relationships aren't working it is important to get to the root of your problems. This book helped me realize why I think the way I do and why others do too. We can only change our own thoughts and focus on being better people. But maybe through that others will be inspired to do the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clear, intelligent explanations about reasons, September 2, 2011

I give presentations to various groups about writing memoirs, important events, and family histories. This book was very helpful for me in offering clear explanations as to why people have different perceptions of the same events. The book was also helpful in my own life, helping me to realize why I make certain choices. Realizing that, in turn, helps me help my clients.

This review is from: What Your Childhood Memories Say about You . . . and What You Can Do about It (Paperback)
What a great book! I always enjoy Kevin Leman's books, he makes them very informative yet writes with great humor! I have purchased numerous copies of this book to give as gifts, all that have received this book as a gift have really enjoyed it. It really helps bring light to many of those dark places from your childhood, also brings greater understanding not only to yourself but also your family. Joanne Kanute, Certified Master Life Coach
