I think this book shows the many complications with thyroid problems; one medicine does not fit all. I took the book to my last medical visit because my doctor is very open minded when it comes to discussing the complications of the condition and subsequent treatment, some of the scenarios in the book described my experience. I am now trying a different approach. This book may help a lot of people understand why even though they are taking medication for thyroid complications, they are still not feeling as good as they should. It made a difference for me.

If You're Hypothyroid--Or Think You May Be--Buy This Book!,

This book will change your life--for the better. Dr. Blanchard is hypothyroidism's Number One Top Doc, and if you can't get in to see him in person, the next best thing is this book. Even if you have the good fortune to see him in person, this book is a godsend.Kenneth Blanchard, M.D. knows just how to treat hypothyroidism, and in this book presents his methods for managing medication, weight, and energy. I've bought four copies already--one for me, and the rest for my many hypothyroid friends. I plan to buy more, and I invite you to check it out yourselves. Every hypothyroid person (and their families) can benefit from his excellent, innovative approach to a widespread problem. Kudos, Dr. Blanchard!

Read this along with Mary Shomons book and you are on your way to learning what you need to know to manage your thyroid disease. I was shocked at what I didn't know after being ill for years. Read it, re-read it and memorize it. Then ask your dr. questions. You can control your disease and symptoms if you have the knowledge needed.

I just what to say thanks for writing the book. I learned a lot about hypothroidism. I'v had it for 10 years. I never new about T3 free. Now I have read more books on thryroid problems. This one is the best. It really tells it like it is. Great information, and what you need to do to get better. All I can say is just read it you will be surprised.

I have read many, many books on the subject and many of those have been very practical and informative, but this one is a MUST for anyone with this health problem, I even took it for my Dr to peruse, since he is an open minded MD. Don't skip this one!

Balancing T3 and T4,
This review is from: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypothyroidism: A Simple Plan for Extraordinary Results (Paperback)
This book is quite good, really focuses on learning to balance T3/T4 not only with lab tests but also based on how you FEEL regardless of what the labs say. Very interesting read.

Great information- although a little repetitive,
This review is from: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypothyroidism: A Simple Plan for Extraordinary Results (Paperback)
So much great information; I have pages tagged and highlighted throughout the book. He takes complicated subject matter and breaks it down for the average person. I didnt feel like I needed a degree to read it like I do some other books on hypothyroidism. My only complaint is that it can be very repetitive at times.

An "ok" information book. Author heavily pushes (every other page) addition of T3. Not everyone needs T3 added with their T4 meds. If you're new to the Hypothyroid world, please read an assortment of books before requesting a specific treatment.

This review is from: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypothyroidism: A Simple Plan for Extraordinary Results (Paperback)
I've had hypothyroidism for 20 years and was not satisfied with my treatment, or how I felt. I read this book and numerous medical journal articles on hypothyroidism and its treatment, then went to my MD with a request to include a small dose of sustained release Liothyronine (T3) along with my regular Synthroid (T4). The results were phenominal: Energy and mood were markedly improved and a host of symptoms releated to this condition (ultra low basil body temp, headaches, constipation, etc.) were resolved. The book is long but if you read it carefully you will better understand how the thyroid impacts your body in many ways, how TSH can be misleading, why your doctor can easily adjust your treatment the wrong way, and the fact that your need for thyroid hormones *varies* seasonally, with pregnancy, and as a result of weight loss. I'm presently working with my open-minded and understanding physician to fine tune the dose and timing of both the regular T4 and the compounded SR T3. We are all unique and you may or may not benefit from the addition of SR T3. If you and your physician elect to try it, be sure to obtain this special medication from an *accredited* compounding pharmacy that has a lot of experience with SR T3. The one that I selected after a lot of checking, including asking them numerous questions and a personal visit to see their facility, is Triangle Compounding Pharmacy in Cary, NC (metro Raleigh area). Good luck on your treatment!
