What is your self worth, by Cheryl Saban is A MUST READ! I have read most motivational books that have been published throughout the years -but this one is truly the real deal. It inspires everyone in a honest and authentic way to search within and find our own inner strength and self love. I guarantee that you will want to run out and get this book for everyone you know!

Many self help books seem to have the same flaw,

I was looking forward to this book. I have always understood my self worth but we live in a world that often doesn't. It is a struggle to hold and cherish your self worth and that is never dicussed. Women will follow the words of the book and, as they change, they will get resistance. That wasn't talked about and no skills were given to help them when that happens. It's isn't a happy journaling journey. It's a journey of strength. As the book says, don't expect to get rewarded for being nice, but, I have found, you can often get punished for not being nice and knowing your role. A journal entry won't solve that. I was looking for more and it seemed "fluffy" to me (and all wraped up in pink-how about an empowering color for women instead). It's a good book to take us half way through the journey but far from taking us all the way there.

Ten stars Pleasantly surprised,

To be honest I almost didn't want to read the book since I opened the first few pages and there were all these well know liberal well off women, whom I sure in the heck couldn't identify with. But being a fair minded person I felt I needed to pass on judging the book until I read it.
Sure there are some things I have read in other books. You know the ones who make up 30% of some bookstores? But I did like her chapter on Finding Your Strengths, because I encounter women every day in my community volunteer work, who feel they are nobody's. Yet visiting with them over a picnic lunch I have brought with me, and just being their friend, they are reminded of the strengths they have and often take for granted. Which is what her chapter on Mentoring the Future is all about. Reminds me of the Titus Women groups in area churches, which is based on the book of Titus in the Bible where the elder women of the church are called to mentor the younger women. Which is so important in these economic times where some of us are teaching younger women about growing a vegetable garden, canning and over all home saving ideas. Her chapter on Marriage and Making it Work for You had parts which I agreed. To be honest this is because as a widow who was married shy 39 years, that the word divorce wasn't a word in our lexicon. But I do agree with her advise on improving your intimacy, getting your sexy on, and remembering what attracted you to your spouse. Ron and I would have date nights where we would flirt and even when we checked into a hotel we pretended we had just met and had the hot's for each other. Still makes me smile thinking of it. So please read the book and share it with friends.

This review is from: What Is Your Self-Worth?: A Woman's Guide to Validation (Hardcover)
In these economically difficult times, when both our emotional and financial self-worth is constantly challenged, Cheryl Saban's intuitive examination of what makes a woman feel worthy is a welcomed and timely read. Her writing style is breezy and girlfriend-like, and she draws insights from both her own personal life (both her ups and downs) and the many woman who participated in an online survey. I particularly liked the interactive quality of the book and found myself answering the many self-reflective personal assessment questions she poses throughout the book. (I'll admit I was not happy with all my responses, but at least now, I know where I need improvement!) What I learned from this book is that every woman is capable of elevating her self worth, but it takes time, commitment and much more--love, a strong-support system, creativity, positive thinking, creativity, a healthy lifestyle, financial responsibility and the ability to give back. These are certainly areas I am going to focus on to improve my sense of self-worth, which I believe will better both my life and those of the people I care about most. I am delighted that in purchasing this book I was able to make a contribution to Cheryl's foundation to improve the lives of women.

This book literally gave me hope again.....,

truthfully! I am a 49 year old woman who recently had double hip replacement surgery, lost my job because of being out of work so long to recover & moved back in with my oldest son, his wife & 3 kids. And that's just the tip of the iceburg! Anyway, I've never been much of a reader but when I saw this book (I believe it was mentioned on either Good Morning AMerica OR Rachel Ray; can't remember) I went right to my computer & looked it up on Amazon. I ordered it that day, received the book about 2 days or so later (INCREDIBLE!) and have almost finished it. It really has made me start thinking about my life and the choices we make and that we CAN change the way we look at life. I had literally lost all hope in life for the past 10 years or so and I'm staarting to get "the ole me" back! It has been wonderfully refreshing and even my friends have family noticed the change in my outlook & demeanor. I've even been thinking about starting a women's help group locally!
Do yourself a favor & order this book! What have you got to lose??? REMEMBER.... you are worth it AND sombody DOES care about you!!!!! F. Dawn Knowles Statesville, NC

I agree with Anonymous Anonymous A...You make an excellent point. When you're down on your knees, overwhelmed, its hard to see clearly and pull yourself out of whatever is pulling you down. Let's see, if I could burrow her housekeeper, her lawn guy, landscaper, etc., maybe I could focus more on what I need to do to get a decent job, so I could save my house and overall feel like a human again....oh, and knowing that you have a guy that loves you, providing essential emotional support with a big wallet doesn't hurt either. I guess what 'm saying is if you have your daily needs attended to and a safety net under you, its pretty easy to focus, recover and find that lost self-esteem.

like having a best friend in a book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: What Is Your Self-Worth?: A Woman's Guide to Validation (Paperback)
"What Is Your Self-Worth?" by Cheryl Saban is like having a best friend in a book. It is a self-help, motivational book for women based on Saban's research while completing a PhD in psychology, including an online survey that generated responses from hundreds of women from around the world. The book devotes each chapter to a different topic important to a woman's worth, from self-esteem to creativity to sex to finances. Each chapter includes advice, anectodatal examples, affirmations and direct quotes from the survey respondants. It is this combination of expert advice coupled with words of wisdom from the masses that creates the breezy, best friend feel of the book.
There is a wide range of topics covered, so it may be useful as an overall jumpstart for your New Year's resolutions. At the same time, each chapter includes a list of journal exercises to deepen the learning of the chapter's specific topic. In this way, the book could serve as a reference tool, where you pick and choose select chapters based on your goals, needs or interests. There is also a supplement at the end of the book which is a longer list of journal questions and affirmations. This might be a good activity for a book club reading this book together. |
