Book Description

When Victor Tookes went to work that beautiful spring day, he never expected to see a man eaten alive in the street in front of his office. After convincing himself that they really were zombies, he makes a trip from his house in Pennsylvania to his family home in Virginia, battling zombies all the way. His three and a half year old son was bitten on the leg, but doesn't turn into a zombie. Instead, he turns into something more than human.

Victor quickly discovers that everything he knew about zombies was wrong. Not all of them were mindless, uncoordinated, rotting ghouls; some of them were bigger, faster, stronger or smarter than when they were human.

A small percentage of humans are genetically immune to the parasite. Instead of turning these humans into mindless shamblers, they gain enhanced abilities. These new abilities will be pushed to their limits in their quest to carve out a safe haven to call home.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT read!!!!! July 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love post apocalyptic books! And this series is right up there in my top list :o) I read the first four in 2 days, couldn't put my kindle down. Read on every break at work, through my lunch and put the kids to bed early....
That being said, the characters grow on you from the start. There is truth to how our population would survive. You have all walks of life. The good, the bad, the ugly all in a great series with super heroes and zombies to boot!! And a awesome little boy that will make your heart melt =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombie lovers rejoice! June 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I looked over at the alarm clock, my eyes too fuzzy to make out the time. I strain and just make it out. It's 3:30am. "Is it really that late!" I think to myself. I knew I had to be up in four hours, but the 97% on the bottom of my Kindle keeps me reading. I have to know how it ends. Does Tookes survive the horde? Will Max be captured? I can't stop reading, I'm too close now. Somewhere close to 4am I finally finish. I turn it off, close my eyes and dream of Zombies. Yes, it's one of THOSE books. The type you can't put down.

I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of Kirk Allmond's first book a couple of months ago during one of his free promotions. It took me a while to get to it as I was finishing up Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin, but once I started it took me less than four days to finish. I could not put it down. Mr. Allmond has created a Zombie apocalypse novel where much more than just the undead are to be feared. He built a world with amazing characters with amazing abilities. A world that kept my interest until the very last page and left me wanting MORE. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that loves a good Zombie novel. Can't wait to pick up a copy of the next book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a "bad" story, but erratic December 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
First off, the premise of this book is not bad. The story really needs some reworking in places, however, and it could use an editor. The main character's wife's name goes back and forth between "Denise" and "Candi" repeatedly, sometimes in the same paragraph (personally, I'd go with Denise, Candi is too much of a stripper name to be taken seriously). There is a lot of really unnecessary and overwrought detail scattered through the book as well. The main character thinks a lot of himself and is a bit annoying.
This feels like a first effort book. It's not bad overall, but I'd like to see it re-worked and polished up a bit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Zombies and Politics Don't Mix
When I am reading a zombie story, I really don't care what the character's political viewpoint is. Does it really matter in a zombie apocalypse? No. Read more

Price was right and it's a good read. The characters were 'fleshed' out well and it was entertaining. Worth picking up!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mindlessly entertaining.
If you're looking for a quality book don't read this book. But if you're hoping for some quick cheap entertainment for someone who likes zombies, this book will do the trick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea
I found this story very interesting. I like that it is not just zombies eating people, that there is some thought to their madness. I plan to read other stories in this series.
