This collection includes HD versions of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix (which was previously Japan exclusive and includes more content, such as extra boss battles and a few more keyblades), Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (which is the 3D PS2 remake of the GBA game, originally included with KH2 Final Mix+ in Japan and released as a standalone title in the US), and the cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Not sure why they didn't include a fully updated version of the entire game, but I don't really care.
They wanted to do a complete HD remake of Days, but it would take too much time, it would push back the release of future titles (KH3 in retrospect). Days was originally designed for the DS, if they wanted to do an HD remake, they would have to re-design the entire game, from the ground up, that would take WAY too much time, so all they could do is give us the cutscenes instead, with a vocher for the DS game for free, oh wait!
As Nomura has said many times before, him and his team are too busy working on Versus XIII. He promised once that is done, he will start on KH3. (Please don't say that since Versus XIII is being moved to PS4 (not confirmed, so rumor), it shouldn't stop them from making KH3. Moving or not, KH3 will come after Versus.)
I have a question- I never played Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days because I don't have a Nintendo DS. The 358/2 Days that's included in 1.5 remix- is it the playable game, or just the cut scenes from the game that you can only watch?
Yes unfortunately, it will only be cutscenes from the DS game, they really did want to remake the whole game, but it would have taken too much time, it would have pushed back the release of future titles, like KH3.
Oh okay. Thank you! I just wanted to be sure. I already have KH1 and Re:Chain of Memories, but it is tempting to get them in HD and final mix. And the artbook. I wish I could have played 358/2 Days, but I can be satisfied watching all the cutscenes. Can't wait until Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally released! Hopefully no later than 2015. Maybe lol
if they'd stop pushing all these crappy filler/spinoff KH games they'd have had Versus XIII long ago. all we got is the same trailors from initial announcements and ONE music track for it after how many years now? and how many KH spinoffs/filler titles in the meantime to distract fans? :/
For the last time Birth by Sleep, Chain of Memories, Days, Coded and Dream Drop Distance are NOT spin offs, a spin off has NOTHING to do with the main series! The only KH spin offs are Mobile and the PC browsers game coming soon. Nomura has said time and time again that every title is important to the main series a number beside the title does not make it more important than a un-numbered title in the KH series. To you fans who are just playing KH 1 to 3 you are going to be lost. Birth by Sleep is Kingdom Hearts 0 and sets up the whole series, COM is a bridge game, KH 2 makes no sense at first if you didn't play it, Days is Roxas's side of the story and sets up a lot of important plots for the later titles in the series including KH 3. Coded sets up what Sora will have to do in KH 3 (saving those connected to his heart), Dream Drop Distance is the true sequel to KH 2 and like what COM did for KH 2, it sets the stage for Kingdom Hearts 3 and ties up all the past titles. I am so tired of so called Kingdom Hearts fans only caring about numbered titles and being so ungrateful to the games in this series. No wonder many Japan developers are no longer bringing their games to America.
I agree with everything that you said, although I do feel that the "numbered" titles have better gameplay. The story in Chain of Memories and Birth By Sleep especially are important to the series overall, and like you said you will be lost if you don't play all of the handheld titles.
When 2.5 HD comes out, I suppose they probably will make a new Kingdom Hearts teaser for KH3, if not then I'll be pissed. I hope that it's for PS3 or PS4, and Square uses the 50gb Bluray disc to make it.
I actually liked the game play in BBS especially the command meld system, the card system in COM was annoying at first but its actually very easy to use once you learn it. Days to me is my least fav. it was just to repetitive though i loved the story and Coded I liked because of how different it was with the platforming and shooting parts. DDD's flow motion was also fun. KH 1 and 2's gameplay really to me was simple compared to the more recent titles but that is not a bad thing, only problem I had with KH 1 was the camera (thank goodness they fixed it in 1.5).
The chances of KH 3 being on the PS3 are actually really good. Just cause the PS4 is coming out this year doesn't mean they will stop making PS3 games (look how long they made PS2 games after the PS3 was released). I think it could be for both the PS3 and PS4 cause Square and Nomura both know many fans bought a PS3 for KH 3 and Nomura has said he wants all the games on one system so to me that says yes KH 3 will still be on the PS3. I could also see a HD port of DDD being released with KH 3 as a bonus disc.
You're right, I did also like the gameplay in Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance (merging with your Dream Eaters reminded me of Drive forms in KH2). The card system in Chain of Memories never got easy for me, though. In both COM and 358/2 I'm stuck right at the end because I could never get used to their wonky combat.
