CHECKLISTS to refer back to that are very adaptable to my family's needs

A must read if you care at all about your family...after reading this guide I now believe if I live prepared, I'll be prepared to live!

About the Author

Matt Lawrence: Author, consultant, public speaker & media personality, is president of Paratus International LLC; a firm dedicated to providing disaster preparedness, continuity of business and security planning for the public and private sectors.

Lawrence has been an invited speaker before members of Congress, conducted preparedness seminars at conferences sponsored by state and federal agencies and provided endorsements for various new life saving technologies marketed today.

A Florida native, Lawrence first witnessed the plight of Cuban refugees as a child in the early 1960s. Thirty years later, life would lead him to fly search and rescue missions with both Brothers to the Rescue and a similar group, Freedom Flight International where he served as both Director of Special Projects and Chief Mission Specialist.

Matt's co-author and editor, Thomas Van Hare is the former Chairman of Freedom Flight International and was previously operations director, mission director and command pilot for Brothers to the Rescue.

Van Hare has served with three Administrations in Washington. During the Reagan administration, he was with the United States Agency for International Development. He also served President George H.W. Bush (Bush 41), as Special Assistant to then Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard Armitage and later to then Assistant Secretaries Dr. Harry Rowen and Ambassador James Lilly.

In 2004, Thomas Van Hare was requested to return to the Office of the Secretary of Defense and work with the Coalition Provisional Authority. Thereafter, he served as Director, Organizational Assessment, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Thomas Van Hare is currently executive director of a company involved in the global development and direct commercial sales of sophisticated military aircraft.

I recently attended a preparedness seminar in Long Island, NY sponsored by Congressman Steve Israel. This book is not a guide just for hurricanes, but for most disasters possible in today's world.

The other speakers, the author, and his guide made it clear that WE as individuals and families must take responsibility for ourselves until help arrives, no matter what the situation.

Nothing in the seminar, or the guide was a secret, however, this book puts the basics of being ready in a clear and concise forum and covers the needs to prepare hurricanes, floods & terrorism. It's all about us having food, water, shelter and a plan for ourselves in the event of a disaster.

I found the information to be current and the checklists complete, and yes, even the author's attempts at humor....funny.

I also learned about shelf-stable foods (a term I'd never heard used before) I'm ordering a couple of cases of the A-Pack MREs for my family and you should too....the samples I got were great.

It's a quick and easy book to read and will be a part of my preparedness kit.

EZ to read

The book has everything:

Ez to remember suggestions that explain HOW to prepare......

EXPLANATIONS on WHY I need to prepare with certain items

CHECKLISTS to refer back to that are very adaptable to my family's needs

The book gave me NEW INFORMATION:

that removed the mysteries about radiological, chemical, biologiacl and pandemic threats. These are real threats that can be dealt with, providing you have the needs of your family met, and What To Do...shows you how to effectively and affordably met those needs.

It changed my mindset from waiting to see what happens to preparing to be ready when it happens

A must read if you care at all about your family...after reading this guide I now believe if I live prepared, I'll be prepared to live!

I live in South Florida, and though we're told all through hurricane season to get our supplies ready and to buy our water, no one really "knows" what we need. This book lays it all out, with checklists and great ideas! Even with having a child on medication, I never knew about getting enough ahead of time or planning a 'go bag' by the door, 'just in case'. Who really thinks like that ? Matt Lawrence did... and now, I feel safer every year. My supplies are marked and dated. My kids each pack a small backpack, and we make it fun ! With shelf stable foods, I know if we lose power, we WILL eat for several days. I really cant say enough good about this book !!
If you want to feel safe, and BE SAFE, read this !! and read it every hurricane season.
