My favorite MacMurray film is DOUBLE INDEMNITY. Fred should have been nominated for an Oscar for his Walter Neff. But very close behind is Mitchell Leisen's superb REMEMBER THE NIGHT which was the first film to unite Fred with Barbara Stanwyck. Of his wonderful romantic comedies of the 30's I don't think you can get better than the sparkling HANDS ACROSS THE TABLE with one of his best leading ladies, Carole Lombard. Finally of the later Disney films THE ABSENT MINDED PROFESSOR helped bring Fred back to the forefront of box office stars. FOLLOW ME, BOYS! is syrupy but also contains a wonderful MacMurray performance. Almost forty years of movie stardom--few stars have equaled that.
I really enjoyed The Egg and I (which spawned the more comedic Ma and Pa Kettle series) -- Claudette Colbert was great in it, too. I also enjoyed his Disney movies, with Follow Me, Boys! being my favorite. Double Indemnity was a powerful movie, as was a western whose name I can't recall. His performance in Alice Adams (with Katharine Hepburn) was also a memorable one.
