5.0 out of 5 stars Dont Pay Attention to the Two People Ranked this Book Low!!!
I was just browsing through the libary and saw this book. At first I wasn't going to touch it, but I was reminded of the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover" (which in this case is soooooooo true!) and pick it up. From the second I started reading it, I was in awe!! This book is absolutly perfect for anyone who, like the book says, thinks there is even a...

2.0 out of 5 stars How to prepare yourself as if you belonged to a cult!
I think that book is fairly too expensive when I compare it to its contance. So many schemes for buying food, soap, matches or cards. Oh common! If it wasn't an Amercian author, I would not believe it. Hello? Aren't we just a bit too pessimistic. 'We had fun in doing our survival weekends...' Hahaha....

I was just browsing through the libary and saw this book. At first I wasn't going to touch it, but I was reminded of the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover" (which in this case is soooooooo true!) and pick it up. From the second I started reading it, I was in awe!! This book is absolutly perfect for anyone who, like the book says, thinks there is even a 5% chance of something happening! It does not discuss what the Millenium Bug is, and I'm fine with that, I've heard enough of that! However, it does go over what you should do and have if anything should happen.(Be it the Millenium Bug or any disaster!) It's full of charts and lists other sources as well as internet sites.ABSOLUTLY A MUST FOR ANYONE WORRIED ABOUT ANY DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book informs and motivates the reader to take action!, February 15, 1999

Finally!!! A no-nonsense, practical preparation book. "Whatcha Gonna Do.." is a must for any household that wants to be prepared for natural disasters, long periods of un-employment, or disruptive and extreme weather conditions. Even if I were not concerned about the Y2K issue, I would recommend this book/manual to anyone. I could not put it down!

Living on the Gulf Coast, I spend much time, money and effort preparing my annual "hurricane pantry". Nevertheless, I have never had a plan as comprehensive as the one set forth in this book. Thanks to this publication I now have a workable plan of action that will carry my family through the next hurricane season as well as the Y2k crisis.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific basic preparedness guide, for Y2K and beyond., February 12, 1999
By A Customer
Since we don't know what's going to happen come January 1, 2000, better safe than sorry is a reasonable policy. A lot of other books are focusing on WHAT MIGHT happen. This one tells you how to be READY for whatever happens. For those of us near fault lines, it takes earthquake preparedness the logical next few steps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terriffic, practical advice/tools in an easy to read format, February 8, 1999
By A Customer
This was a fantastic, practical book to help get your head around what to do regarding Y2K. Each chapter focused on a specific area which would be affected by a grid failure and gave clear, easy recommendations. I now feel that my family has the ability to make the appropriate preparations for the millenium. As a final note, I have bought copies for my parents and in-laws and intend sending a letter to everyone I care about recommending they buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars SIMPLICITY FOR NON-TECH HUMANS, January 23, 1999

Although I received this workbook only yesterday, I can see that it is precisely the checkist type of workbook - SPIRAL BOUND - for easy use by anyone who can read. No one REALLY knows how bad the y2k problem will be - not until testing begins (if it ever does!)

However, WHATCHA GONNA DO contains exactly the type of info we all, as individuals and families, will need. I am a self-sufficient 65 year old widow who lives alone in a small city, and wonder if Susan Robinson intends to write a sequel for older people like myself who live in small apartments.

The spiral binding was the very first thing to attract my attention because I know it will lie flat for easy use and/or copying. The index is excellent and the many blank but lined pages are going to be the assistance we all need. Even without completing reading the guide, I have already recommended it to at least 15 friends around the world.

We cannot depend on THEM/THEY to overcome the coming problem. We are all going to have to pull together, and thanks to Mrs. Robinson, we can begin to get our acts together!

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative but basic, December 8, 1998

This review is from: Whatcha Gonna Do If the Grid Goes Down?: Preparing Your Household for the Year 2000: 1 (Paperback)
Susan Robinson gives a very basic overview to the Y2K situation. Her book is informative but basic enough for beginners. The charts are very handy. I would have liked to have seen examples of what her family did, but then I am a very visual person.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too bad 0 stars is not a choice, because I'd give it a big 0, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Whatcha Gonna Do If the Grid Goes Down?: Preparing Your Household for the Year 2000: 1 (Paperback)
This book looks like and reads like a high school student who just learned to use a word processor and a spreadsheet to create "checklists". I've read better 8th grade book reports. It's full of filler "checklists" to prepare for Y2K. Actually there's more checklists than substance, and is certainly not worth the price that it's being sold for. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy, I returned it immediately.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, January 26, 1999
This review is from: Whatcha Gonna Do If the Grid Goes Down?: Preparing Your Household for the Year 2000: 1 (Paperback)
I finished reading this book. It was quite a disappointment. In my opinion, the author was looking to make a quick buck on the Y2K dilemna. This book is mainly charts of what you may wish to have in your house if the power goes off for 1-3 months or more. She never addressed the concept of buying a home generator and fuel. If you take the Y2K problem seriously you should consider a good home generator. This issue was never addressed. Of course, this book was written by a WOMAN who is clueless about the mechanical aspects of survival. Imagine, buying a home generator and not doing without. Don't waste your money!
