Great Song, No Credit for Imogen, Would have preferred Kanye on it,

I like this song. However I have two problems with it and docked a star for each. Frist they didn't give Imogen Heap credit which is really why this song even exists. It's the mixing of Imogen's chorus that really makes this song sound so sweet. Second I guess I'm just not a big fan of Jason Derulo singing, I feel like the song didn't live up to its potential. Maybe this should have been on one of Kanye's albums like the electronic 808s & Heartbreak (I think this song could have made a killing with someone like Kanye tearing it up!!). But hey that's just my opinion, otherwise I like it and I'll be listening to it.

I enjoy this track - the sample is from Imogen Heap's song "Hide & Seek" Great production from J.R. Rotem (Think Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls") This track is very radio accessible. Enjoyable by a diverse audience!

Perfect example of sampling,
This review is from: Whatcha Say (MP3 Download)
This record is great simply because of the 'Hide & Seek' sample, I really don't think it would have been as great if it was the same old hook we get on a record these days. The thing about this record is that you can hear Jason's island vibe to his voice which I love, but I have heard him sing with such soul on a youtube video, and that makes me like this guy even more. He has diversity which is key to making great music. This song has been on top for a while now, but I cannot wait for it to hit internationally because I know it will be such a success.

finally Imogen Heap gets some additional credit,

I was introduced to imogen heap in 2007 by a friend, and while the songs were incredibly interesting - they were slow and not good for anything but maybe a rainy day. Now, I've heard Hide and Seek to dance and Watcha Say - so, hopefully everyone will realize the brilliance of the tunes and lyrics!

Sounds like it was made on a computer in someones basement. I guess I'm jealous that I'm not able to cash in on this "new" type of music. I have what it takes, computer skills and no talent, so whatcha Say?

Strangely enough, I had heard this single only hours before hearing my sister play the Imogen Heap original (which I thought was a very interesting piece of music). After listening to both versions (Imogen Heap's and Derulo's), I confess that I have enjoyed Jason's version much more. Now, this is not to imply that Imogen Heap didn't get it right to begin with; on the contrary, they allowed Jason Derulo to start his career with a very strong foundation. With that said, I think that what Derulo did by taking the very "skeletal" Imogen Heap song and adding the "meat" to it (beat, other lyrics, etc) was very sharp and the whole piece came together. For those who don't prefer this version, the acoustic variant is phenomenal and even better than the original (in my opinion).
Derulo has a style which isn't exactly like most R&B artists, and I'm hoping that he is successful in his new career by continuing his current trend. As a final note, I think it is important to point out that Jason Derulo didn't "steal" Imogen Heap's work, but merely added to it in an insightful way. I think it is very irrational to criticize the song simply because it either wasn't sung by another artist (that argument could be used for every song ever created) or because you like Imogen Heap's version better. Imogen Heap does some great work, and Jason Derulo has potentially given them a big popularity boost. However, Derulo deserves credit for his talent (which was present from a young age), and this song is an excellent example of his skill.

I don't normally purchase singles. I heard this on the radio and it was stuck in my head for days before I actually bit the bullet and paid for a single. Never heard of this guy before this song, but I'm usually open to most kinds of music. Listen to the preview, I think you'll be hooked.

I love this track for one simple reason-- it features a sample from Imogen Heap. It's a great sample, and fits well into the track. I enjoy the track itself too.
