5.0 out of 5 stars But Baby, I'm For Real...I'm As Real as Real Can Get, January 6, 2007
By
The title of this album is my theme song. Every time I walk into the room this song is played...actually, it isn't...but in my mind, it is. I love this album. If the only song on this recording was, Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get, I still would've bought it because that's an R&B/Soul classic right there...

What does a crazy white boy know about soul?

Baby, I got soul coming outta my soul.

I love this album. I listen to it all the way through at least twice aweek and I listen to the title track at least once a day. Don't believe me? Ask my wife. One time I put this thang on the CD player and just hit the repeat button. I played it continously for an hour. She came into the study and said very sweetly, "John, sweetie, if you don't play another song in the next few minutes, I'm gonna take the CD out of the player and huck it across the street..."

So, keep it "real" and buy this...you'll be so glad you did...

Well, I gotta go across the street and retrieve my CD. I hope it didn't get hurt any...

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Jams old skool, September 21, 2004
Boy I remember when this jam came out in 71. I wore the groves out on that Lp. It still rocks today. Man they dont make them like that anymore. With me it was Temps and the Dramatics all day long. So get back in that chair again, put the head phones on and jam. Out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas gift in 1972...Still One of my Favorites, July 30, 2006
By
Jimi Mack (Millbrae California) - See all my reviews
I was 14 years old on Christmas Day in 1972 when I received this LP from my sister. I knew the two main hits, "In The Rain" & the title track, but I also heard the songs "Hot Pants in the Summertime" & "Fall in Love Lady Love", on our local soul radio station, KDIA. 7 of the 8 tracks included on this Soul Masterpiece are "10's" in my book. All but the quirky "Gimme Some (Good Soul Music)" get's my highest score. Then again, there is something with the Dramatics that made them a bit "Different" from other soul groups at the time. I can't put my finger on it, but they almost had a "Garage" sound. But, that's my opinion.

If you're a fan of 70's soul music, this is a must have to add to or start your collection.

Also, at the Visitacion Valley Jr. High School talent show in 1973, a band made up of students (the only one that I really knew from the band was Jerome Hawkins) played the song, "Hot Pants in the Summertime" to a roaring crowd of teenagers. What great times those were.

5.0 out of 5 stars What I Hear is What I Love, June 4, 2009

1972 was a wonderful year for soul music; too bad I was not even born yet. The dramatics drop a debut album full of sweet harmony, and a mix of soft soul, quiet storm, and uplifting funk. The title jam has a nice funky, latin tinge to it and sounds hot while cruisin or chillin. "Get Up and Get Down" is a cool groovin' jam to shake and jive to. "Thank You for Your Love" is the firs of many slower jams here. I love the soft harmony and the sitar like guitar riffs. "In the Rain" is the quiet storm staple here with the thundering sound effects before the gorgeous guitar riff kick is. The dramatics sound so vulnerable and emotion ridden, which makes for some real good groovin here. "Gimme Some (Good Soul Music)" is another fun jam with those strings and harmonies. This song really applies today with the drought of really tasteful soul music (at least in comparison to the 60's and 70's). I also love the sexually charged "Hot Pants in the Summertime;" the vibe is hot and steamy with a cool harmony and a splash of soft, subtle funk. This song really applies now as I write the review (June) as the weather heats up for the summertime. "Hot Pants..." is the definitive, groovy summertime jams. "Fall in Love, Lady Love" is a wonderful ballad-type jam, and Mary Don't Cha Wanna is a cool mid-tempo jam. This is an incredible album full of different vibes and great harmony. This is the start of many 70's soul classics by the Dramatics. Their next several albums after this were also straight fire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure soul is the best way to describe this album!, May 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is definitely a classic Dramatic's album. Every song on here just about is slammin'. I pretty much have all of their stuff on wax, but i was really glad to have copped this title on compact disc, especially with the original art work being on the front cover. Being from Detroit, i grew up hearing the Dramatics quite frequently on the radio and in the household.
