Biography

“Iconoclasts are warriors who are sent to judge and destroy the murderers of God. God is dead, the only thing that’s left is to take revenge for his murder”, states Maik Weichert (guitars) about the initial story of the Iconoclasts. “The album works on two different levels: Each song tells a story that is rooted in reality. However, all songs are linked with an overall story about a cast of… Read more in Amazon's Heaven Shall Burn Store

Editorial Reviews

2008 sees the re-release of the yet metalcore classic Whatever It May Take completely remixed, remastered by the band's masterminds Maik Weichert and Aexander Dietz, wrapped up with all new artwork handled by Monument Studios (Job For A Cowboy, Chimaira, Aborted) and enriched with some nice bonus tracks. Heaven Shall Burn can easily be quoted as one of the most uncompromising German exports you've ever heard and aside from Caliban, Heaven Shall Burn can be considered as one of the most popular European acts of the genre. There are all Heaven Shall Burn trademarks: a good dose of Swedish-styled melodic-death, brutal breakdowns and heavy mosh parts. Whatever It May Take has now the sound and look the band and we at Lifeforce Records always have been looking for and it shouldn't be missed in every fan's collection. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punch yourself in the throat if you don't own this one!, January 4, 2003

This review is from: Whatever It May Take (Audio CD)
I was introduced to HSB summer 2002. I had no idea what I was missing. If you are a fan or metal, metal core, death metal and hardcore, you must purchase this album immediately. These five guys have taken the best aspects of every genre and melded them into a consise representation. It doesn't sound like seperate parts. It's almost as if it's a completely new sound. I've heard Whatever It May Take a million times, and there are still times that it sends chills down my arms. They're earlier stuff is definitely worth looking into as well. Visit the Lifeforce records website for MP3s and a live video and don't forget their self titled web site. I look forward to seeing them if they ever make it to the US.

4.0 out of 5 stars fantastic deathcore from eurpoe, April 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Whatever It May Take (Audio CD)
Heaven Shall Burn falls alongside bands such as Arkangel, Caliban (who've they done a split with), The Red Chord and others. This is primarily metal but there is a strong hardcore streak running through this giving it a highly aggressive edge coupled alongside thundering double bass and fast metal riffing. Fans of metal and hardcore will enjoy this making it an excellent crossover album. Check out the aforementioned bands as well for more fantastic music of this style

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping The Melodic Metal(core) Torch Lit, October 24, 2006
This review is from: Whatever It May Take (Audio CD)
Heaven Shall Burn is one of the greatest metalcore bands to ever exist, and "Whatever It May Take" is definite proof. They're not your average trendy "metalcore" band nowadays, nope. With influences from legendary greats like Bolt Thrower, Earth Crisis, and At The Gates, they deliver a sound that will surely please the ears. And when I mean metalcore, this isn't a band that throws in open C breakdowns. Nope, it has the aggression and influence of hardcore mixed in with their melodic metal. The vocal work may take a little time to get used to, but keep in mind that the band is German and the vocals have a definite German touch to it, making them unique. Overall, if you enjoy melodic metal/metalcore like Dead To Fall, Darkest Hour, At The Gates, and anything of that sort, do not hesitate to pick up this album.
