Punch yourself in the throat if you don't own this one!,

I was introduced to HSB summer 2002. I had no idea what I was missing. If you are a fan or metal, metal core, death metal and hardcore, you must purchase this album immediately. These five guys have taken the best aspects of every genre and melded them into a consise representation. It doesn't sound like seperate parts. It's almost as if it's a completely new sound. I've heard Whatever It May Take a million times, and there are still times that it sends chills down my arms. They're earlier stuff is definitely worth looking into as well. Visit the Lifeforce records website for MP3s and a live video and don't forget their self titled web site. I look forward to seeing them if they ever make it to the US.

Heaven Shall Burn falls alongside bands such as Arkangel, Caliban (who've they done a split with), The Red Chord and others. This is primarily metal but there is a strong hardcore streak running through this giving it a highly aggressive edge coupled alongside thundering double bass and fast metal riffing. Fans of metal and hardcore will enjoy this making it an excellent crossover album. Check out the aforementioned bands as well for more fantastic music of this style

Keeping The Melodic Metal(core) Torch Lit,
By Bill Lumbergh "yeaahh..." (Initech) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Whatever It May Take (Audio CD)
Heaven Shall Burn is one of the greatest metalcore bands to ever exist, and "Whatever It May Take" is definite proof. They're not your average trendy "metalcore" band nowadays, nope. With influences from legendary greats like Bolt Thrower, Earth Crisis, and At The Gates, they deliver a sound that will surely please the ears. And when I mean metalcore, this isn't a band that throws in open C breakdowns. Nope, it has the aggression and influence of hardcore mixed in with their melodic metal. The vocal work may take a little time to get used to, but keep in mind that the band is German and the vocals have a definite German touch to it, making them unique. Overall, if you enjoy melodic metal/metalcore like Dead To Fall, Darkest Hour, At The Gates, and anything of that sort, do not hesitate to pick up this album.

Never judge a book by the cover,

I will start this review off by admitting I did just that seeing Heaven Shall Burn's "Antigone" in music stores. Picking it up and seeing the bands name made me want to put it back and never give it a second thought.
It wasn't until a few months back I continued to see "Antigone" and now "Deaf to Our Prayers" and I said what the Hell! I then purchased both albums and loved every song on each disc. I've since been able to find "Asunder" and "In Battle...". I had found a bootleg of the orginal "Whatever" and loved everything but the sound quality...plainly put it was horrible. I then found out from HSB's myspace that they were re-releasing this album, but sadly no american release date in sight; I finally got my copy and it's absolutly amazing. I won't bother by listing my favorites or listing songs and rating each one because every song is perfect. If you are a fan of As I Lay Dying, Through The Eyes of The Dead, I Killed The Prom Queen, and The Black Dahlia Murder you need to check these fellas out....you won't be disappointed. |
