Ohh ladies!!!!!!!! All I have to say is "have mercy" and "umph, umph, UMPH" about this book!!!! You are going to need a fire hose, a bucket of ice, a pitcher of lemonade, an ice cold Coke, a mountain of snow and any other cold item you think of when you read this book! It starts off hot and gets even hotter! Oh, and you're going to need a tissue or two because it's also a beautiful love story. That's all I'm going to tell you. No spoilers here!Do not waste any time buying this book when it becomes available. Make sure you have some uninterrupted time when you crack open this book because you are not going to be able to put it down. Send the hubby and kids somewhere for a few hours and get your read on! When the hubby or significant other gets back, if you have kids, put them to bed because you are going to want to play! Men will be writing Maureen thanking them for this book! I have to say Kimani made the right choice choosing Maureen Smith to launch the new Kimani Nights line! She will be a hard act to follow. Renee Williams All the Buzz

Maureen Smith Rocks!!!,
This review is from: Whatever You Like (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay all you Maureen Smith's fan out there, this one is for us. If this is your first by her, you'll definitely want to read her previous books."Whatever You Like" is so HOT! I had to fan myself after reading the sex scenes. Lean and Roderick had an amazing chemistry. From the first chapter to the last, I was hooked. Their week in Tokyo..., omg, the shower scene! Oh yeah, every women should have a man like Roderick. Their goodbyes at the airport, so sad. I used half a box of Kleenex, I was so sure Roderick was going to propose at that moment. I find this book similar to "Taming the Wolf". Overall this book is fantastic, a keeper. Buy it you'll not be disappointed. I can't wait to read "Tempt Me At Midnight" due 12/10.

As reader I know we have all at some point in our reading has pick up a book and was just BLOWN AWAY by that book and yes it can be more than one book. Well for me that is how I felt reading this book. If you are looking for something HOT HOT HOT then you have found it. If you read Taming the Wolf and you though that book was HOT then this one is HOTTER. By day Lean Morrison is a Grant writer but at night she works as an escort service. Roderick Brand man oh man what a man that song salt & pepper that title said it all. This man just make you melt and Lena was no exception. Her rule never to cross the line with a client well when she saw him walk out of that hotel and to the she was gone..............The Limo, the shower the swimming pool and trust there is so so much more with this couple. This is a book that best read when find a good spot with something tall and cold to drink, also keep some tissue beside you as well. A lot of husband and SO's will be happy as well once you finish reading this book. When Kimani decided on a new line they couldn't have pick a better author to start it off with and with our help and a lot of praying this line will be off the chain. Way to go Kimani Nights. Suspended reality in a good way,
By
This review is from: Whatever You Like (Mass Market Paperback)
Maureen Smith is a writer I only recently discovered. Deciding to trust the mostly favourable reviews I decided to take the plunge. What can I say..she had me at 'Whisper my name' and 'Like no one else', I took a walk away after 'A Guilty Affair' ( a bit too dull for my taste) and 'Taming the wolf'- well-written but somehow cold and souless. But I'm now back in the picture with 'Whatever you like'. As my American sisters would say- this book is off the scale. I have read a few complaints aboout Lena essentially selling herself to secure a grant for the Charity she works for, agreeing to sleep with a man who she also happens to find incredibly attractive and IS in fact incredibly hot. Whats not to like? Roderick Grant: Tall, dark, gorgeous, super smart, mega rich, alpha male. The reality is there will be many, many women out there even in real life who would NOT say no. Just ask all those successful musicians, athletes and actors...But moving on. The point of romance/erotica whatever we choose to call them is that for a brief period they take you to a different, more fun sensual world, away from your own very real, sometimes stressful one. They are not neccessarily meant to mirror YOUR own life 100%, and to be honest, who wants the non-stop drama? As for me as long as the storyline is good and well-written I am happy to suspend disbelief and simply enjoy the ride. And what a ride it was. From the Rolls-Royce' to Maybach or his private jet to his yatch the Native Sun. Taking in the sunset while sailing down Lake Michigan or revelling in the views from the penthouse suite in their Japanese hotel. Totally fun and enjoyable and dare I say - romantic, because though his demand she stay with him was kind of ruthless (however I recall that virtually every single Mills and Boon or similar novels I read in my teens had the guy making outrageous demands which the female love interest could never refuse- so this idea is not new)..as I was saying, Roderick made up for it by being on the whole charming, caring and attentive. Lena was not all weak and I felt she held her own pretty well and definitely won his respect- and mine. Despite the awkward start to their relationship I came away with the belief that they were always equals; whatever she agreed to she wanted almost as much as he did. I am not a massive fan of people falling into bed (or onto the floors of Rolls Royce's:-)) on the first date but I accept that these things happen and there is such a thing as overwhelming sexual attraction. In this case it did not detract from the book one jot. I also liked that they didn't fall in love immediately and they actually conversed and slowly got to know each other. These were two imperfect people carrying some baggage who were willing to overlook each other's flaws and take a chance on love. Roderick was tough, ruthless - he had to be to have made that much money and probably very cynical about the ways of the world- especially of women. Lena was streetwise, determined and vulnerable beneath the tough exterior. Another plus for me was how detailed and well written the descriptions of wealth and privilge were. I have read books were the writer clearly had no clue how to write about stuff like that. In some ways this book is a departure from Ms Smiths usual style (though I can only judge from the 4 or so books of hers I have read thus far)- but I feel she handled the slightly controversial themes with flair. I am firmly a fan.

Where's the STORYLINE?!!!!,
By
This review is from: Whatever You Like (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read books by Maureen Smith in the past, and I'd really couldn't put them down until I'd finished reading them. This book was a FIRST for me. Lena and Roderick was all about sex. The story got lost alone the way. Don't get me wrong, HOT, STEAMY SEX...who wouldn't love it, but where's the story. I felt Lena should have fought harder against Roderick's demands. I lost my respect for her because she sold herself for the $$$$, although, it was for the university and a possible promotion. I'm glad she curvy with some meat on her bones in the right places, but what happened to her dignity and self-respect? I just bored with this book because it became about sex and not a story.

This book receives a four stars rating from me.It was definitely not a relaxing read for me. I have read stories before where the hero or heroine has done everything in their power to lure the object of their lust into bed. However, they did not provoke a reaction like this book. It was a love hate relationship. The first reaction came a the choice of profession for our heroine Lena, it was an escort. It is not the authors fault that I am of an age where I equate escort with prostitute. So I found myself fighting my own preconceived notions. It did not help that our hero Roderick was also coming to grip with these notions . After all not only was Lena intelligent she was also a gorgeous women. He basically cornered her into a relationship with him that made her attraction to him seem whorish.. This is not an admirable trait especially when he was so ruthless. I usually have to warm up to these characters such as Roderick . I did warm up to Roderick until he started acting like such a jealous and noxious fool. I wanted to grab and shake some sense into him. Overall, I enjoyed the book. Yet, Roderick the hero let me down. He didn't realize that it was his actions that made Lena seem less than she was and he waited until it was almost to late to ask her forgiveness. Not what I expected but it is good to shake up things once in awhile.

Good story, well written too but, the cover shows two caucasian adults and the story is actually about a black couple. That is weird but the discrepancy doesn't take away from the story which is essentially about a woman who begins her adventure with a man by prostituting herself to win a large grant for a nonprofit. If that doesn't bother you, the sex is really good and there are a few laughs along the way too!

Whatever You Like AND Some,

Lena Morrison is a grant writer by day, an escort by night. All is well until a date with Idris Elba look-alike, Roderick Brand, leaves her with an offer she can't refuse. Roderick offers three weeks of fulfilling his sexual fantasies in exchange for a million dollar grant that will guarantee a promotion in her day job. Vowing never to mix business with pleasure, she is forced to make a decision that may ruin a friendship, her career, family and future.Whatever You Like drew in because of the hawt cover. It is the typical steamy love affair story with a predictable ending. It definitely sets the stage for a sequel or spinoff featuring one of the supporting characters. I'm keeping an eye out for more fiction books by this author. If you like sizzling, erotic romance novels, then this is it! Literary Marie

Hot sex, blah storyline,
This review is from: Whatever You Like (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm VERY picky when it comes to my romance novels. I love a good balance between sex and storyline. But Maureen Smith falls short in this one. She has the sex down but not the storyline. This book is a reading version of any Cinemax softcore porn TV show. 30 minutes of hot sex and a flimsy storyline just to make it an actual "story."It's kind of hard to REALLY like Roderick as the hero because he just doesn't...think for such a smart man. He basically buys Lena for sex and she's dumb enough to go for it so her university can get the arts grant it needs funded by Roderick. I just expected more from the story. Roderick mentions his loving family yet we don't meet them. A quickie meeting with his twin brother doesn't suffice. Lena has a great family with her grandfather. A kind of deadbeat sister though. Morgan's not a bad character but she's pretty selfish to not even try to help pay for their grandfather's assisted living facility (this is what makes Lena moonlight as an escort). Lena carries the burden of her grandfather on her shoulders while Morgan bounces from one boyfriend to the next and spends money on clothes. While Lena has to resort to being an escort. The sex is GOOD. But it's just porn with a lacking plot. The plot had SO much potential but Roderick's obliviousness in seeing that he REALLY is just treating Lena like a bought for prostitute makes him lacking for me. And the Maureen Smith fell into the infamous "big misunderstanding" plot and it was just a time line fast forward. It wasn't that good of a rift and was only used to make the book travel from September to February. Overall if you WANT/NEED/DESPERATELY want to read great sex scenes pick this book up. I feel blah having read this. All I can remember is the sex. The storyline was just so very lacking and in turn made the characters kind of boring. So sad for a book with potential to go much further. If you want a great storyline this isn't the book for you. Buy it if you want to read just sex only. |
