Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered edition of this 1988 album from the Funk legend. The bizarre clash of styles that had made Collins such a style icon in the previous decade is still obvious, and at its best on this album. Clever use of samples and spacey effects add to the atmosphere. It's as if Collins went into the studio with a blank sheet, and built this extraordinary musical engine from anything and everything that came to hand. In fact, while this may be partially the case, as with everything Collins touches, the spontaneity is matched by the discipline and professionalism he'd imbibed earlier in his career. Features guest appearances from his P-Funk bandmates George Clinton and Bernie Worrall. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turn Your Radio's Up, February 5, 2005
This review is from: What's Bootsy Doin (Audio CD)
Because of his semi retirement early in the 80's Bootsy seemed to have bypassed the electrofunk generation all together. But this 1988 comeback album leaps right into that vein as if the last five years didn't happen. But you have to admit that the driving "Party On Plastic" and even the pop/R&B of "Love Song" are classic Bootsy and his performance,as always is as best described as manic proffessionalism-Bootsy knows his stuff but he NEVER lets his ability get in the way of his humor.First there was Larry Graham of course (THE MASTER),then came Boosty-from whom the seeds Stanley Clarke,Verdine White and Louis Johnson sprang.Pure magnifisance!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bootsy's Back from a long hiatus., June 18, 2005
This review is from: What's Bootsy Doin (Audio CD)
What's Bootsy's Doing, was a comeback disc for one of the greatest bass players that ever lived. He was becoming a popular musician again so with the help of Malcolm Mc Laren and others, he got back into the studio to record some strange and weird pop music. A hybrid of rock, funk and a little spacy dubs. Samples and even a vocal apperance from Malcolm McLaren and the Atomic Dog himself George Clinton. Pure 80's music. Bootsy would later come into his own when he started to colaborate with BucketHead, Bill Laswell and Bernnie Worrell.

Highly recommended for Boosty Collins fans.

By A Customer
This review is from: What's Bootsy Doin (Audio CD)
I must say I was really blown out of my mind when I heard this funky stuff. It's like the funk still is standing strong, cool! I don't know what's your opinion, but I can't get enough of this funky feeling!!
