Book Description

8 and up3 and up
Wizard astrologer from the age of 7 Madalyn Aslan reveals how to be a wizard astrologer yourself, and how to divine the sun signs of pals, crushes -- even pets. Backpack Astrologer, Madalyn's special supplement for CosmoGIRL teens, sold 600,000 copies last year. Now, in What's Your Sign? even younger readers will enjoy unlocking secrets of the Zodiac.

Madalyn, once a child astrologer herself (she read Rock Hudson when she was only twelve) wrote this cosmic guide to help kids build their confidence and problem-solving skills, and to better understand themselves and those around them. She includes super-fun tips like, How To Spot a Gemini, Aries on the Playground, Leo Sibs, Aquarian 'rents, Your Pisces Cat, and Libra in Love. Cool facts about the planets and Greek-Roman myths co-exist with celeb-signs like Britney, the Olsen Twins, and Nancy Drew, true Taurus detective. She also quotes real-life kids' comments about their own signs.

What's Your Sign? is beautifully color-illustrated, and includes a spinner wheel on the back cover which uncovers each sign's basics, tabs down the side of the book to easily find each sun sign chapter, and a 14" x 18" fold-out poster of all the signs.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

What's Your Sign? A Cosmic Guide for Young Astrologers by Madalyn Aslan, illus. by Jennifer Kalis, provides the pertinent details on each astrological sign, explaining the history ("Libra was Themis, goddess of Justice"), lucky color, day of the week, etc. ("Opal... is lucky only for Libras") and personality associated with each (including the ideal sign for your "crush"). The sturdy, spiral-bound edition contains a pull-out poster and a zodiac spin wheel for fast fact-finding. Ages 8-up.

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-9-An old topic is entertainingly presented in a sturdy, spiral-bound package. Index tabs labeled with the 12 zodiac signs begin with Aries and end with Pisces. The 10 pages devoted to each sign describe the dates covered; features of that time of year; and the personality and social traits of the people born under that sign. Brief sections tell of the mythical characters represented by the astrological signs and their ruling planets. Each chapter concludes with a selection of famous people born under the sign and fictional and cartoon characters who exhibit its personality traits. A page sports a zodiac wheel with a window that can be turned to reveal each sign's color(s), day of the week, metal, precious stone, and element. Use of words such as "dissed" and "rent" give the text a more contemporary air than most treatments of the subject. Numerous funky cartoon illustrations and purple font add to the book's attractiveness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gift to Young Readers, June 3, 2002
This review is from: What's Your Sign? A Cosmic Guide for Young Astrologers (Spiral-bound)
"What's Your Sign?" is a true gift to young readers. I'm a fifth grade teacher and child care provider in the MD/DC area. I work with many types of children and each one of them would be able to benefit from this book in a different way. The book may be used as a tool to help a child find their place in the world. It allows a young person to learn to accept themselves and those around them. The book celebrates differences by exploring people's astrological signs, to explain each persons' gifts to the world. The book has a wonderful introduction. It explains how the book can be used and the benefit of keeping a journal of others- to act as a super sleuth. The pictures are delightful and add to the charm of the book. I especially liked the sections which talk about your pets signs, what to do if your best friends a certain sign and how to react to your teacher if he/she is a certain sign. I keep the book on my coffee table. (even though I'm an adult) Because everyone enjoys picking it up and seeing a little window into the world of others. I highly recommend this book to ALL children. It would be a wonderful gift for an eccentric little one. Enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ~*Wonderful Book*~, May 27, 2002

I am a 15 year old libra, and i was interviewed by Madalyn Aslan the author. I just recently acquired a copy of the book and was able to read it. I found it very insightful and an interesting read for any age. If you have any questions about how you work or anyone close to you this is the book for you. It looks at astrology in a new way and takes it apart for younger people to understand. I highly recommend it, especially if you are interested in astrology.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like this book very much., June 4, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: What's Your Sign? A Cosmic Guide for Young Astrologers (Spiral-bound)
... I read this book when my friend got it, and then I got one of my own because I liked it so much. I think all of it makes a lot of sense, because my sign is Aries, and now when people tell me to stop always wanting to be first, I can tell them that I'm supposed to be first, because I am an Aries, and that is the first sign. I also liked the book because it tells you things about the stars, and I like to learn about astronomy. I like the stories about the names of the stars, too. My little brother likes the book, too, but he's not an Aries. My cat is a Leo, and she does act like a lion. The book is very pretty, too.
