Too $hort has been rapping since the late 70's but his last few albums have been total junk, and this one is no exception. There are three listenable tracks on this CD: Get The Cheese is a good song, and The Old Fashioned Way and The Movie are ok. Every other song is weak. "Female Players" is downright PAINFUL to listen to.So what's changed from before?? I think Todd can still rap, but something is different about the beats, they just aren't funky anymore, they are more like the junk you hear on the radio. Too Short abandoned the funk and went pop/R&B. If you want to know what Too Short is really about then buy "Shorty the Pimp" or "Life is Too Short" or "Get in Where You Fit In". In the song "It Don't Stop" from "Shorty the Pimp" Too Short says, "If the bass aint deep then something's wrong / It must not be a real Too Short song." As far as I'm concerned, Too $hort's last album was "Gettin It". Everything after that must have been done by an evil clone or something.

Too $hort never ceases to amaze me. Having been in the game for so many long years, through the good & bad, the ups and the downs, Too Short still succeeds. Longevity in the game is a prized asset in becoming a legend. Some people may wonder how can he stay consistent and tight for so many years. And people who bash Too $hort literally know nothing about Hip hop. Period. You don't have to like him or his style, but you MUST respect his game. His track record should speak for itself. The majority of his albums are at least certified gold with a couple platinum plaques thrown in there. Fourteen albums, or is it fifteen? Who knows? With so many albums it is hard to keep a good count of this stuff. People don't just look at Too $hort and say which album is his best. No there are heated debates on which is which. So just how does Short Dog do it? He does it by staying true to himself and his style. Through all the hatin on his style, content, voice, flow etc. etc. , he maintains what he has known. He talks about universal topics, mainly women. He uses fresh, creative, original beats that bump in yo trunk. And I must say this Too $hort's best album in years with friends such as UGK, Lil John & The Eastside Boyz, E-40, B-Legit, Ant Banks, Devin The Dude, and George Clinton stopping by to show love. Too $hort is the original pimp and with What's My Favorite Word?, he further solidifies his place in hip hop history. Must Have. 1. Triple X

I've been listening to Short since I was 8 years old, and own every album from Born to Mack to What's my favorite word. As a die hard short dog fan, I think that after gettin it #10, short kinda fell off. The style just ain't the same as the old school short dog that threw out classics such as life is... and short dog's in the house. Though I do think this album is better than the last three, can't stay away, you nasty, and chase the cat, with more beats to bump to. This album gives some head bangers like quit hatin, and some funk laced beats with pimp life. I would recommend this album to others, but with some warning that it's not one that you can throw in and listen to every track, expect to do a little hopin around. For the younger cats that are just gettin into short, I recommend grabin up some classic short, like albums 1-8 to get an idea of what too short is really all about and capable of, true funk, and x-rated lyrics that pops the trunk, with every track blazin from intro. to outro.

This album, in my opinion, is easily one of $hort Dogg's best. The tracks flow smoothly with one another, and make this CD... believe it or not, relaxing and easy to knod your head to. I highly suggest purchasing this album, and checking it out for yourself. From other reviews, I can see I'm not the only one that believes $hort Dogg has done it again... this album is no exception in Too $hort's list of bumpin' albums. The beats, rhymes, and rhythms work perfect together. Don't miss out on this hip-hop classic.

I must admit firstly that this album has taken a more softer funk approach to Too Short which suggests he has moved slightly more with the time than sticking to straight out funk like he did back in his prime time before hes short lived retirement. If you want those deep funk beats, you wont find it all here however the clever ploy of this album is that Too Short has stayed true to himself even though he has slightly changed hes beat formula to suit 2002. The beats are still deep but have a clarity about them. A more polished updated sound as such. I still prefer the deeper Ant Banks style funk but this is better than anything else thats coming out in this current time. Too Short has always stayed 1 step ahead of all others as far as funk is concerned thanks to his consistant raping style which although is more repetitive than most rappers is still the most flowing and hes love for funk as apposed to complexity which I believe is what kills this genre of music. Rap is suppose to be about flow and feeling, not about complexity and perfection and thats why Too Short and Ant Banks are by far the funkiest dudes in the rap game and have been for ages. This album contains some real crap though, particularly the quit hattin songs. They do not belong to Too Short, they should have been given to the East Coast in my opinion. However there are enough smooth moments on this album that get the thumbs up as the most enjoyable album of 2002. Cali-o while isnt one of Ant Banks best is still deeper funk than what you will get these days.

What's his worst album? (1 and 1/2 stars),

This one!!! I've been listening to Too Short since Shorty The Pimp but he stopped making good albums since You Nasty(his last solid effort). Chase The Cat was a bad album but even it wasnt this bad. Songs like That's Right, The Set Up, and Triple X show you The old Too Short I fondly remember. Quit Hatin Part 1 grew on me but this album is weighed down heavily by these. Filler: Get That Cheese is the first time I heard Too Short make a corny record. Songs like Lollypops, Female Players, Cali-O range from painfully bad to boring. Call It Gangsta is ruined by a bad beat and that Mystikal clone Petey Pablo. Pimp Life is bland and She Loves Her is so awful that anybody that is remotely turned on by lesbianism will puke with the quickness(yes its that bad!) Bottom Line:What's My Favorite Word is Too Short's worst album period. Yes even worser than Cant Stay Away, Chase The Cat and Married To The Game(the last one smokes this album though. Boring beats, lackluster lyrics and weak guest appearances is what you can expect from this album.

What was surprising about this album is that I knew it was going to be amazing before I'd even heard it. $hort has never let me down and has continued to make great records for so many years. I enjoyed most of the guest artists as well. Everyone complimented the songs very well. Now stop readin this and go cop it! Peace.

Too $heezy, still The SH*T! Let me take a deep breath before I write this review to all the double crossers,so-called Too $hort fans, or just to the Player Haters who just can't appreciate Really Really Pimp A$$ Rap! I've read the reviews for this album, For all the so-called Fans who write "It's just not the same Too $hort, that he sold out, that he traded the funk for crunk". *F all you. You call yourselves $hort Fans? If you really were, you wouldn't diss him! Being a fan means loyalty which you haters in these reviews don't have. You remind me of the people who say that kobe is better than JORDAN (???) either they used to be JORDAN fans and jumped the bandwagon, or don't know sh*t about basketball (As you haters with Rap) You give props to rappers such as pUSS diddy/bad boy b*tches,ja rule, bow wow,jay z,cash money and others??? Everybody is entitled to their opinion. As I am, and I'm sure you believe you're right (as I do) But come on people, and remember your favorite so-called rappers wouldn't be here without old $hort Dog. Lil' Jon and the Eastside Boyz are big now, who do you think gave them their brake? and Remember, you haters haven't really seen Lil Jon and his Boyz until recently, $hort has had them for about 4 years(since "Can't Stay Away") 'Nuff said, and they're not the only ones, (remember these names, Bad Wayz,Slink Capone,Quint Black, all future projects of Mr. Sir Too $hort) Anyways, about this album; the best jams--all of them, it's $hort! but the ones I listen to the most "PIMP Life, and a future classic that (sad to say) should be dedicated to more people out there than not-"Quit Hatin!I and II". He's the OG Godfather of this PIMP Game, he's been rapping longer than your rappers have been alive! He's the Michael Jordan of rap. "Can't Stay Away" from this game,40 years old and still ruling this game! "Quit Hatin, MFers Quit Hatin!!!

I have been a Too $hort fan since middle school. I loved his first 6 albums especially Short Dog's In the House (Hard on tha Boulevard) and thought that "Album #10" was not a bad way to finish his career. The reason I gave this album 3 stars, is because I'm comparing it to his LAST 3 albums! They are terrible in comparison with the ol' skool ... your used to! Including this one, this is the 2nd best of his last 4 albums, but not great. Triple X is a good song as well as "Pimp Life" and I believe #3. I also got excited when I heard "Quit Hatin Pt. 2"; it's that old school bass that will shake your trunk. That's 4 songs out of 14! What happened when there were only 10 songs, but they were all of quality! I also thought having George Clinton on this album would be a good thing, but no; the last song isn't good either. For all you younger rap listeners who have not heard Too $hort and want to hear his ..., DO NOT start with this one or the previous 3 albums...start with Born to Mack and go all the way up to Cocktales. Those are some of the tightest albums EVER made and show you what Too $hort is really about, before he basically stopped rapping on his own albums. |
