I read about this edition in The Rolling Stone and knew that it would be the perfect gift for my father. I was not miss taken. "Whats Going On?" was the best (not "one of the best") protest albums to come out in the 70's and should be listen by anyone alive today. The 2 CD's are the remastered version as well as tons of unreleased tracks and B-sides. But the selling point of this album the the 8" Vinyl. In all fairness, that alone is is worth the $50 asking price.

Buy this if you have working ears, they will thank you.

While most anyone over 40 knows this is a great, great album - the even better news is this is a lovingly crafted deluxe edition box, worth every penny you will pay for it. I think even at $99 it would be a good value. Original LP jacket actually opens out as a book with large, great photos of M. Gaye. The music of course is great - lots of extras on the two CDs and an LP of the original album in a new mix is also in it. Only slight disappointment is that - for collectors - lots of the bonus tracks have been previously released on other 'What's Goin' On' special anniversary editions prior to this one...but, this one IS the best, the total package.

I was trilled to get an actual album, my sister couldn't believe that I received the real deal. I've played the CDs over and over. The album cover is displayed on the cocktail table. The collection brings back memories of the year that my son was born. I am truly enjoying Marvin Gaye's 40th Anniversory package.

This Super Deluxe version includes a bonus CD of largely instrumental songs and outtakes recorded after the What's Going On sessions, a vinyl LP of the Detroit mixes, additional single mixes and demos added onto disc 1, a unique double gatefold LP-size jacket and a 12" x 12" booklet with two, large-print essays, liner notes and pictures.

Missing are: the 1972 live concert and detroit mixes from the previous deluxe edition. Maybe they should have released a 3 CD + 2 LP (original & Detroit mix) super-duper deluxe boxed set that included all this stuff.

I doesn't get any better than this. Long heralded a classic, the 40th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, contains everything a true lover of his music would want. It contains instrumentals, early versions, vinyl and cds. Marvin was at the top of his form during the reording of the timeless masterwork.

I was surprised that this purchase was more than I expected. It is a great purchase and I enjoy it. If you are a fan of Marvin Gaye, you will like this CD/Vinyl.

Had to return product because it was a duplicate, and vendor responded immediately. Will definitely buy something else in the future.

A week at home and not stop listening to everything. Edit very carefully and with beautiful pictures. A great gift!
