4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, Great Cause
This CD is pretty good and for a very good cause. Whether you like R&B, Rap, Rock, Pop, Dance, etc. There's something for everyone.

1. Dupri Original Mix (5 stars) - This is the one heard all over the radio and TV. It's getting played out now, but it's still a good song.

2. The London Version (3 stars) - Not a bad version, but not the kind of music I like to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
I suppose it's unkind to be critical since this is for such a good cause, but I was a little disappointed with this CD. I expected to hear the same song in very distinct, different genres but honestly, I think a lot of the tracks sound too similar. Perhaps it's "nice" that artists with different styles can "come together" and record a song, but I would have liked to see...

2. The London Version (3 stars) - Not a bad version, but not the kind of music I like to listen too. I am sure there are a lot of people that like this song, but I'm not one of them. Chris Martin and Bono are the only 2 artists on this one.

3. Moby's Version (3 stars) - Also not a bad song. I don't like the way it is mixed (The artist's and the background). Has a dark feeling to it.

4. Fred Durst's Reality Check (2.5 stars) - Not really a big fan of rock, listen to it sometimes, but not a lot. Basically has the same lyrics as the original, only rock background and rock artsits.

5. Magini/Pop Rox Mix (4.5 stars) - Nice Beats. Same lyrics as the original.

6. Mick Guzauski's Pop Mix (5 stars) - Background sounds like Marvin Gaye's original "What's going on". Usher, Monica, Jagged Edge, TLC, and Pat Monahan(Train) all make appearances on this one. No rap, Gwen Stefani, Backstreet Boys, or Mary J Blige.

7. Dupri's R&B Mix (4.5 stars) - Exact same background as the original only some of the artists are different. Usher, Monica, TLC, JE, and Lil' Kim are all on this one. Usher's part is good. Lil' Kim's part at the end ruins the song.

8. The Neptunes This One's For You Mix (5 stars) - Good song. Nice beats and good lyrics. All R&B and Rap. LL Cool J, Fabolous, Da Brat, Queen Latifah, NORE, Mobb Deep, and Faith Evans are just some of the people on this track.

9. Junior Vasquez's Club Mix (5 stars) - Very good dance mix. It's good the whole 9 and a half minutes.

Fantastic is all to say! (4 Stars)
6/What's Going On (MG's Pop Mix)
Wonderful piece. I especially love the part from JC from *NSYNC. (5 Stars)
7/What's Going On (Dupri R&B Mix)
This is the R&B version. I contains the original background music, but has different artists.
8/What's Going On (Neptunes One's For You Mix)
Bad version! (1 Star)
9/What's Going On (Jr. Vasquez's Club Mix)
The Best of the CD is this song! Nine and a half minutes of "What's Going On" is this! The entire price is this song!!! (5 Stars)

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice idea for a good cause..., October 30, 2001

The line-up Bono has amassed is amazing and they do a pretty good job of updating the Marvin Gaye classic for today's current politcal landscape. It seems a little stupid to have so many versions of one song, but I guess Bono really wanted to show how various forms of music can transcend itself for a greater cause. Overall, a very good effort with nice results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neptunes Make This Cd Hot!, December 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: What's Going On (Audio CD)
I'm not a big fan of people like N'Sync & Britney Spears. As a matter of fact you can say I hate their music. But the one remix on this album that is really really hot is the Neptunes Remix! They lay the hottest beats in the biz today & they continue to prove that on this album. They bring some of the hottest rappers in like: Fabolous, Mobb Deep, LL Cool J & Noreaga and, lay down a great beat behind them and make a very bangin song. If you're not a pop music fan, buy the album just for the Neptunes version...it's worth it + it goes to a great cause.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cover, May 22, 2005
This review is from: What's Going On (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed this album because there was so manny diffrent artist in here. They are trying to deliver a positive message. Even though Britney is in this album (I cant stand her), it is still very good to listen to.

People, quit complaning about the rappers because they did a great job. Especially Nas. I bet half of you haven't listen to what they said.

I really enjoyed hearing Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Destiny's Child, Monica, Usher, Nas, Eve, And Faith Evans on this album. I think the best track on this album was the RnB remix.
I hope you guys buy this because your money is going to a great cause. I give credit to everyone who was in this for taking time to do this for free.

I went to the AAAW website after seeing the music video. I then wrote an ideological critique of the video for my Speech 101 class at college. While doing research I felt compelled to buy the CD. I can sum the whole cd in just two words: IT ROCKS!!!! I am a big rock fan, so I especially love track four. I suggest that any of you who are even thinking about purchasing this CD to go ahead and buy it. I also urge you to get educated about "What's goin on" and then teach others. Spread your words of wisdom and then you can Support the cause by simply buying this CD of doing a number of other things which is explained on the website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Promo?!, January 2, 2002

I just came across this after doing a search today. Heard briefy of this work some time ago, but with 9/11 there hasn't been much else in the news. I don't recall hearing much airplay or fanfare over this incredible album recorded by various artist for what is such a timeless piece of music, recorded by the late great marvin gaye! marvin would be proud of this work.

He's spinning in his grave saying, "lord or lord, what's going on".....

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD for a Great Cause, November 10, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: What's Going On (Audio CD)
This CD was totally worth the (price) I bought it for. I originally bought it because I had heard the song on the radio, and had no idea that the money I bought it for would go to the foundation that is trying to find a cure for AIDS. The CD is great, and the money might save billions of lives. So please, buy this CD, listen to the great music, and help the people with AIDS.

Whether you're a fan of one of the many artists (P. Diddy, Bono, BSB, Britney Spears, NYSNC, Lil Kim, Fred Durst, Alicia Keys, Destiny's Child, Eve, Usher, etc) or just a concerned US citizen, this is a must have. Proceeds go to the September 11 Fund of the Uniter Way for families of victims of the World Trade Center disaster and the Global AIDS Alliance. Why pass up an oppertunity to both help others in needs and enjoy a new CD? The point is, you shouldn't. Buy the CD and feel better know you've helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful song, December 3, 2001
By
This review is from: What's Going On (Audio CD)
The first time I heard this song I think I just drowned in the joy of seeing so many music stars come together for a great cause (AIDS in Africa) and then later I drowned in the musical soundscape of hope and faith that this song (and some of its remixes) was surrounded in... Bono does a great job of keeping the fundamental importance of Marvin Gaye's message and his lyrics in the song while updating it a bit with modern introspectives from some surprisingly great rap performances from three out of the four emcees on the last leg of the song (NAS's part was okay, but he's way more talented than what he displayed on the song)
to everyone who is complaining about the rappers, have you listened to their lyrics? Nelly perhaps captures the emotion
of AIDS in Africa perfectly with his line about the mother crying out to God, asking why her child has to die when he has done nothing wrong.... Eve is quite poetic, and her lyrics should be an inspiration to what we as Americans have a responsibility to do, which is to stand up and do something about the terrible tragedy going on in Africa right now and in other parts of the world...

most of the remixes are pretty good, especially the junior rivera one, the neptune's rap mix and the london version...

maybe the greatest lesson americans can take from sept. 11th is that in this age of evil, we need to be a shining point of light in the world, and we need to fight terror in all of its insidious forms, whether it be Osama Bin Laden and his terror attacks or AIDS and the terror it is spreading on a daily basis..

Plus any song that can get the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync together peacefully must be special... :-)

and last but not least, to the guy from london who panned the song, kiddo, mariah carey ain't even on this song.... don't review it if you ain't bought it...
