It is a great book to have as a resource - to look up particular issues such as etiquette and timeline for invitations to various types of parties.

This wonderful guide is for everyone, from the most inexperienced host or hostess to a veteran party-thrower. It is packed with practical advice on every aspect of party planning (including having fun at your own party) and well organized in color-coded sections such as "Setting the Scene"and "Holidays and Other Special Days." The quirky illustrations, appealing photographs, and no-stress attitude make it a delightful read. The author has truly thought of everything: even clean-up and what to do with leftovers.
These pages also contain many recipes and menu ideas. One of my favorite passages is "Ten Great Assembled Desserts," which are tasty desserts made from store-bought ingredients, perfect for feeding a crowd. This book makes gatherings large and small seem fun and feasible and most importantly, it makes you want to throw a party!

This is a wonderful book for either experienced hostesses or hostesses who just want to have fun with entertaining. I have been entertaining for a long time but have found this book to be full of things I never thought about (that were extremely handy) or things I discovered over the years. It has "inside" advice and tips, recipes, and all kind of things you never would have thought to ask about but are so glad they included.

This is a good looking and well crafted volume. The contrast in the hip rounded corners and mod graphics make a delicious chord with the classic and retro type and heartfelt focus on cozy classics and gracious tips. This is a badass book to give as a gift, I bought four, because it looks sexy and is wholesome and nutritious inside, a fun read while learning what is good for you, and more so whomever you are trying to nourish!! x RP

I found "What's a Hostess to Do?" to be comprehensive, witty, and modern but still capture so many traditional essentials of successful entertaining. It is a great book to have as a resource - to look up particular issues such as etiquette and timeline for invitations to various types of parties. But it was also just fun to read through, picking up helpful information and answering questions I never knew I had. Great present for showers and hostesses - even experienced party givers can always use a few pointers!

I ordered this book to use as a reference in preparation for the holiday season entertainment and I was not disappointed.

The author provided practical tips that are helpful regardless of the hostess experience level.

Purchased paper copy recently from Amazon, published by Artisan, New York, latest in Series of "What's a ______________ to Do"?

What's a Hostess (Host) to Do by Susan Spungen is fun, interesting and well organized. The main topics printed in color on the contents page and the individual pages for each topic are color coded right margin makeing it easy to locate those portions of the book.

I'm one of those people who read cookbooks as if they were novels amd I'm enjoying this one. With a quick browse through I have picked up some helpful household - entertaining hints. I found the receipes to be interesting and will be using several this summer, some on the grill near our poolside cabana. The color photographs are useful because I always want to know before hand what the finished product should look like.

I think Ms. Spungen has a winner.
