5.0 out of 5 stars Chrissy's World Of Books - Chrissy's Reviews, April 9, 2010
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
I have to admit that I don't recycle as much as I should be doing. We recycle cans, and paper products but after reading this book there are a lot more things and ways that my family can recycle and help out not to clutter up our Earth.

There are 6 parts of this book: What's it like, Living Green? , Recycle, Reduce, Reuse, Responsible for our Earth and Kids teaching kids by the way they live. In the first part there is a 2 page green quiz... I have to say I did pretty well with the quiz but I could be doing better.

This book is a wonderful way to read about all the different ways you can recycle and great tips on ways to be Green. As you read this book you will learn about how people have been recycling and their tips on how you can do that also. This book has all kinds of tips from composting to water conservation.

I defiantly would recommend this book for anyone who is wanting to learn about going green and what they can do to help be a part of keeping this Earth clean. We only have one Earth its not like we can move to the moon when we fill the Earth up. This book has opened my eyes that I can be doing a whole lot more to recycle, reuse and conserve what I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Book, September 7, 2009
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
This is a great book. It isn't preachy. It doesn't tell kids (and adults) what they should do to help save the world. It shows things other people are doing. It has wonderful ideas and great examples of what it's like to live Green. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gives examples that many young readers will be inspired to live by, July 10, 2009
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
Example is perhaps the best way to teach. "What's It Like, Living Green? Kids Teaching Kids, By the Way They Live" is a guide aimed at kids to teach them the value of living green, and how to make family life more environmentally friendly. Telling many stories of children, teenagers, and young people leading the environmental charge, "What's It Like, Living Green?" gives examples that many young readers will be inspired to live by.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Vanderwood Team says "Green Is the New Cool! So Think Green", July 6, 2009
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
When getting thin and healthy became the craze, "Less Is More" became the credo. "Green is Cool" is the new credo that author Jill Vanderwood brings to the forefront with her new, exciting best seller "What's It Like Living Green". This book establishes the "new cool" by introducing us to a series of "cutting edge" young people who are putting the planet first, ahead of fashion, money, fast cars, travel, and all of the other outdated definitions of "cool".
Our obsession with the beauty of heavenly bodies is now shifting towards our own neglected but beautiful planet. We are tired of everybody treating our global mansion like it is somebody else's job to keep it clean. If you are going to live here, you are going to need to "do your share". Jill Vanderwoods team of co-authors are leading by example as they show us new and innovative ways to "Think Green" in our everyday actions and activities. With her past endeavors directed towards a younger audience, Jill has launched her writing career into new and exciting territory as she expands her audience to include everybody. You see, if we don't get in line with her passion and begin to care for our planet, there won't be one left to care for. And that will present a problem for readers of all ages.
Of course it is always easier to convey new ways of thinking to a younger audience. Therefore, hopefully kids, teens, and young adults everywhere will be the first to join Jill's "Green Team". The topic of this book is an original idea whose time has come. Jill has done a fantastic job of putting together a great anthology of stories about young people who knew this time was coming and took action long before the presses fired up this best seller. Thanks Jill for getting all of their stories out there into book-land for all of us to see and appreciate. If there has ever been a "read and take action" book, this one is it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Information, June 9, 2009
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
I found this book very informative. It's amazing what some of the kids throughout the world have accomplished in improving the conditions of our world. There were so many great ideas that I hope all schools will try to incorporate the things in this book, and encourage all children to participate. Future generations need to be aware of their responsibility to the earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Guide To Improving The Global Environment, May 5, 2009
By
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
Much attention is being paid these days to the concept of "living green," but many people aren't fully aware of just how to apply the various principles of the concept in their daily lives. Rather than buy a home powered solely by solar panels or drive a car fueled by cooking oil, there are simple, inexpensive practices that everyone can follow in order to help make the world a cleaner, healthier place. In What's It Like, Living Green?, author Jill Ammon Vanderwood provides readers worldwide with a plethora of useful examples of green living - many of which were developed by the youngest among us.

Consider, for example, fifteen-year-old Emily Sikes, who extols the virtues of recycling everyday items, such as using empty soda bottles as bird feeders, plastic bags as packing materials, and egg cartons as fire starters. Also, thirteen-year-old Sara Sikes, who expounds on the global benefits of using cloth grocery bags instead of the usual plastic ones to which we've become accustomed. And who wouldn't be surprised to learn that sound advice regarding the creation of compost (nutrient-rich soil) could come from the fertile imagination of an eleven-year-old boy (Jake Henty)?

To further supplement her already rich volume of invaluable information, Vanderwood closes out the book with a comprehensive listing of "green rankings," providing readers with a helpful guide to learning how they can make healthier, more globally-conscious decisions in their own personal lives.

Fully aware that "living green" is more than just a catchy political slogan, Jill Ammon Vanderwood has taken the bold initiative to compile a comprehensive collection of stories, anecdotes, practical examples, and more, all of which are designed to highlight the growing sense of urgency that we all must feel toward improving the global environment. If everyone shared a mere fraction of Vanderwood's passion for changing the world for the better, the green living movement would advance by leaps and bounds. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Teaching Tool for Living Green, April 7, 2009
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
As I read the recurring news articles about the ice shelf melting, I wonder at American's lack of care for our planet. We are the worst offenders on earth and consume the most resources. Buy this book for your children and read them the stories of how other children are working to save our planet. Teachers will find great materials here for teaching kids to recycle and reuse - not excuse our wasteful behaviors. It's wonderful the way some of these young people have made a major difference in our world. You and your children can, also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Share This With a Child in Your Life, March 29, 2009
By
This review is from: What's It Like Living Green?: Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live (Paperback)
This book is a compilation of articles, anecdotes and stories as told to the author from people living "green" eco-friendly lives. Some stories are directly from young kids making an amazing impact on the world. The pieces are short, 1-3 pages each, so you can read it little by little. I have to admit to being a contributor to the book myself with a short piece about the Freecycle network. I read the entire book for the first time when Jill sent me a copy. It's an excellent book anyone with a child in their life should consider sharing with them!
