POOKIE'S UPSET AND POOKIE'S MOM cannot figure out why. And Pookie isn't helping, either. This familiar scenario is told with Sandra Boynton's signature humor, in both story and art. mood, this book will come to the rescue for kids and adults for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars When "use your words" just won't work... October 3, 2007
Format:Board book
Boynton is back! Here's another winner from one of our favorite children's book authors... It's about the trouble that occurs when strong emotions -- unhappiness or anger or boredom or helplessness -- collide with a little person's inability to explain what they are feeling, or why. A toddler named Little Pookie is in a big funk, and his/her caregiver asks a bunch of questions to find out why. The adult's question appear in bold, dark typeface; Pookie replies in little red letters. Are you tired? No. Are you hungry? No. Did you lose something? No. Finally, the adult realizes that an actual answer probably isn't possible, and starts to ask silly, nonsense questions that help Little Pookie laugh a little and get unstuck. This call-and-response structure makes this a really fun book for parents and kids to read together... This is a lovely little book and a great tool to help build emotional intelligence... Highly recommended! (ReadThatAgain)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Boynton ever! June 15, 2008
Format:Board book
We LOVE this hilarious book! My husband and I read it together for our 1 year-old son (I usually read the Pookie part) and it cracks us up every time. When my son is upset and getting fussy, simply reciting the 1st few lines of the book will often calm him down. This is a family favorite and we highly recommend it.

Pookie is upset. No, he has the "blahs." No, he doesn't feel well. No, wait....maybe he is lonely. Well, haven't you been there before yourself? I have! I would love for someone to read this book to me...

5.0 out of 5 stars works every time August 12, 2009
Format:Board book
When my son is upset and I cannot get him to talk or stop crying, I read him this book. Even though he is 2 1/2, he now knows Pookie's lines and is happy to "read" along. He is always smiling at the end.

Very cute! We all enjoy reading this book. I don't see how not knowing what upsets pookie is an issue (one of the past reviewer's criticism). Isn't that usually the case?
