4.0 out of 5 stars A "history lesson" on the "Grandmother of Rock"
The soundtrack shows the many facets of Turner's career, from her hard-edged R & B years with former husband Ike ("Rock Me Baby", "A Fool in Love", and "Proud Mary") to her struggling disco/Las Vegas era ("Disco Inferno") to her triumphant "rediscovery" and rebirth in the mid-80's (the mega-selling title cut and...

1.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack, What's Love Got to do With It
I saw the movie and liked the songs in it. I ordered the soundtrack from the movie, but it was not the soundtrack. They have a dubbed another person in on Ike's part. All the songs from the movie were not on the soundtrack and some other of Tina's were included. I feel that if it is going to be advertised as a soundtrack then it should be a true soundtrack. The Bryan Adams penned "Why Must We Wait Until Tonight?" should've been released as a single. It is Tina at her sultriest and grittiest, the mix that makes her the definitive performer that she is.

The album's only shortcoming is the omission of Turner's "Let's Stay Together", the song that really brought her back into the public eye after years of musical obscurity.

That reduces the rating by one star.

3.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack for the movie, December 11, 1999

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: What's Love Got To Do With It (Audio CD)
This CD contains some new tracks ( including the Terry Britten penned "Stay awhile") and some new versions of Ike & Tina classics. It's nice to hear new versions of "A Fool in Love", "it's gonna work out fine" and other classics. Personally however I prefer the original recordings by Ike and Tina. Especially the new version of "Nutbush City limits" and "Proud Mary" are much worse than the original. The real soundtrack to Tina's life has still to be released ! The "collected recordings sixties to nineties" (Capitol /1994) comes much closer than this. P.S. The European version contains 14 tracks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's Ike?, March 2, 2005

I was looking for the original recordings of some of Ike and Tina's songs. They are not here. The re-recorded material is ok, yet lacks the sound and vocal intensity of the originals; like 'Nutbush City Limits', for example. Where is her work with Phil Spector? There should be an "expanded" edition of this soundtrack with some of the original recordings that include or are intertwined with the film's original score.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING, October 9, 1999

TINA'S RASPY, RAW, UNIQUE VOICE SHINES BRIGHTER THAN EVER ON THIS SOUNDTRACK ALBUM FROM THE MOVIE OF HER LIFE. TO HEAR FRESH INTERPRETATIONS OF THESE SONGS DATING BACK TO 1960 IS STUNNING,ALL THE TRACKS ON THIS ALBUM WERE RE-RECORDED FOR THE FILM WITH THE EXCEPTIONS OF "WHATS LOVE" AND "I MIGHT HAVE BEEN QUEEN". THE NEW VERSONS OF "PROUD MARY", "A FOOL IN LOVE", "IT GONNA WORK OUT FINE" AND OTHERS REMINDS US THAT TINA JUST KEEP GETTIN BETTER WITH AGE, HER VOCALS ARE SENSATIONAL ON ALL THE TRACKS. ALSO OF NOTE IS THE THEME SONG "I DONT WANNA FIGHT" WHICH WENT TO #9 ON THE US CHARTS, AND SPAWNED TO GRAMMY NOMINATIONS. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE ALBUM.

Tina Turner rerecorded songs from her past to make her movie and they are all here on this CD soundtrack. The only one missing is "River Deep Mountain High."

Her new version of "Proud Mary" rocks even more than her original with Ike Turner. The one on the album is with Laurence Fishburn who played Ike in the film.

She rerecords some of our past favorites and really captures the energy of the film that it came from. This is a definite must-have for even the slightest of Tina Turner fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A suitable soundtrack for an excellent movie., January 15, 2000
This review is from: What's Love Got To Do With It (Audio CD)
When I first saw the movie "Tina: What's Love got to do with it", I was struck by the soundtrack that included many excellent Ike & Tuna Turner songs (re-recorded and better than the originals) and new ones like "Stay awhile". I simply had to find this album and managed to locate it. I did not hesitate to purchase this CD, and I believe this to be one of Tina's finest works. Each song has meaning and you can relate it to you own life experiences. Each song displays Tina's great talent and range and this CD has depth to it that so few other can boast. A must have for fans and non-fans alike.

3.0 out of 5 stars All that's got to do with Tina, December 5, 2002

This cd is the soundtrack to the movie about Tina's life up to the early '80's and her uproaring comeback.
The music scored here is basically her oldies updated thru new
arrangements for the '90's.
It is good listening to Tina sing an updated version of NUTBUSH CITY LIMITS (much better than the remixed one appearing on her greatest hits package) or getting wild on DISCO INFERNO.
WHY MUST WE WAIT UNTIL TONITE is a great track written by Bryan Adams and I DON'T WANNA FIGHT is pure Top 40 AC.

Nice memories and great songs

5.0 out of 5 stars Tina, Good as always., February 20, 2003
This review is from: What's Love Got To Do With It (Audio CD)
1993, was a very good year for Tina, she came back with a new production that wasn't actually a brand new album, it was the soundtrack of her autobiography sended to the big screen. The movie was "What's love got to do with it", the movie was a blockbuster and both main actors were nominated for the Oscar, they didn't win but Angela Bassett won the Golden Globe for Best atress, back in 1994.
This cd was a big hit for Tina all over the world, actually Tina used to appear on the covers of the magazines, while the first single, "I don't wanna fight" made it to #9 in the Hot 100 and #1 in the Hot Adult Contemporary.
For the soundtrack Tina re-recorded several of her early hits from the 60's and 70's. Tina's label decided to make two editions of the soundtrack. The European with 14 tracks and the American with 12.
The songs that did not appear on the US edition were old hits which are: "shake a tail feather" and "Tina's wish".
There's one thing that I don't understand about Tina in the US, how come she has big hits in Europe that never arrived to the US, such as the theme of the 1996's James Bond, Goldeneye, or Tina's latest European hit "Whatever you need", it's maybe because her record company doesn't promote her as they should in The US.
That's a mistery actually that we'll never know.
