What's in the Meadow? [Hardcover]

Anne Hunter (Author)

Available from these sellers.

Book Description

5 and upK and up
What would you see if you sat in the tall grasses of a meadow? What sounds would you hear? What life would you discover there? In a charming hand-sized book, Anne Hunter illustrates the creatures that live in and around a meadow, and describes each animal's characteristics and habits. The gorgeous artwork and simple sense of wonder will inspire children to explore their environment. Fans of Hunter’s two books, WHAT'S IN THE POND? and WHAT'S UNDER THE LOG? will want to add this new title to their collection.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Reviewed with Hunter's What's in the Tide Pool.

Ages 5-7. These square, little books introduce two very different habitats by focusing on 10 animals that live in each one. A typical spread features a close-up illustration of the animal on one page, with the facing page presenting a few lines of text describing the creature's most interesting habits and characteristics. Meadow includes the wooly bear caterpillar, spittlebug, firefly, meadowlark, and Eastern mole. Tide Pool looks at animals such as the sea anemone, herring gull, hermit crab, blue mussel, and barnacle. Hunter's handsome watercolor, ink, and colored-pencil pictures gracefully illustrate the animals' characteristics and surroundings. These volumes are not intended for research, but their combination of informative, well-written texts, and attractive illustrations makes them good choices for reading aloud to young children who are interested in nature.
