THIS WAS THE FIRST 'BAD BOY' ALBUM...IN THEORY,
By
This review is from: What's the 411 Remix Album (Audio CD)
This album is actually one of my favorites of all time. Craig Mack drops a verse on here. Biggie (RIP) drops two verses. Puff is on the intro as well as using a crazy voice during a slamming remix of 'What's The 411' - you see, this was the Bad Boy we all came to grow and love before it became known for it's love of money. It's East Coast/Hip-Hop/R&B with a touch of ghetto fab to the fullest. Only one weak song, "Changes I've Been Going Through..."And Mary - she kills it, and lays out the red carpet for her much touted, 'My Life' in 1994. Especially for the Mary fans who liked the combat boots and the thug girl image, this one is for you. Loved it, loved it, and still love it. Peep her duet with K-Ci, "I Don't Wanna Do Anything Else" produced by DeVante. That makes this album a must have by itself. AND, you'll be surprised to hear Heavy D drop a then unknown chorus (a full year before he released the actual song) on her Teddy Riley remix of "My Love"...Heavy starts saying, "I Got Nothin But Love For Ya Baby..."...now isn't that tight? Out. Knyte (Trust Me)

Few Remixes Stand Out...,

This review is from: What's the 411 Remix Album (Audio CD)
This 1993 remix project gave Mary J. Blige fans a tease before the onslaught of her classic sophomore album, "My Life". While this album was influenced heavily by the remixers, Mary's voice exudes the tracks with warmth and passion. Of the 12 remixes, about half of them come close to the originals. "Real Love" and "What's The 411?" get you bumpin' with ill rap verses from then up-and-comer Notorious B.I.G. (both remixes produced by Sean "Puffy" Combs). "Reminisce" features the slick style of rapper C.L. Smooth. Then "Puffy" Combs returns to remix "Love No Limit" and "You Remind Me". The one remix that truly outshines the original is Teddy Riley's remix of "My Love", featuring Heavy D. The remaining remixes are less than sub-par. The DJ intros could have been left off. However, this was only a sign of things to come for the young Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. A definitive must-buy for any Mary fan young and old.

NOT WORTH IT,
This review is from: What's the 411 Remix Album (Audio CD)
Only Because SHe has so Much Depth&feeling in Her voice do I Give it a Two.but the Mixes don't add nothing to the already Established Foundation on The Original Album.I Never Have Liked Re-Mixed albums Because they Usually Mess up what has been Established.this is only for DIe-Hards.

The 411 on these remixes (4 and 1/stars),

This remix album is not as bad as these pop music fanatics are making it seem. I remember having fond memories of this album when it was out. It was a nice companion piece for What's The 411. The complaint about the DJ intros is stupid because Hip Hop and R&B ran harmonious together and not as divided as they are now.
Tracks like My Love(feat Heavy D), Real Love(feat Notorious Big), Reminisce(feat CL Smooth), I Don't Want To Do Anything(feat K-Ci Hailey) are excellent tracks that stand out and remind you why we all fell in love with Mary J Blige in the first place. Sweet Thing, Changes I've Been Through, You Remind Me, What's The 411 and Love No Limit are pretty good remix tracks that give this album replay value. The only questionable track is the remix to You Dont Have To Worry feat Craig Mack. That track will never be better than the original that was off of the Who's The Man soundtrack. Other than that this album is slammin and is recommended to any MJB fans. Standouts: MY LOVE, REAL LOVE(my favorite), REMINISCE, SWEET THING, LOVE NO LIMIT, YOU REMIND ME, I DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ELSE and WHAT'S THE 411.

Mary J. Blige released this remix album about a year after the original album came out. The songs already had a hip hop edge to them but now they have been revamped with even more hip hop. This is quite an enjoyable album especially if you just chilling at the crib with some folks (which I do a lot). Every remix is tight save for the Sweet Thing remix...you just can't remix that type of song and keep the same tempo and have it be good. Notorious BIG raps on two of the songs (Real Love and What's The 411) so that's another plus. But the X-Factor here is Mary J. Blige. She just has a knack for making great tracks and albums. Buy This Album right now if you haven't already. 5 Stars.

Mary In Tha Mix,

It's cool they remixed every song from mary's best album What's the 411, including the leave a message intro, with new answering machine messages! The standout remixes are "Real Love" and "Luv No Limit". I didn't know these mixes are the same ones I had on vinyl. Most of my records were stolen so it's cool to have these mixes on cd now. You can play this cd from beggining to end, it flows that way although some of the mixes could have had better beats, but this cd has that unmistakable early 90's hip hop sound that is a joy to listen to because of all the good memories of that era. This is one of mary's best cds, where she got her start as the queen of hip hop! BTW "can a brother borrow a pack of hot dogs?" what's that mean, I think I know.....

"What's The 411?" (featuring Biggie), "My Love" and "Love No Limit" are all off the hook remixes. The rest are pretty boring. Yawn. Puffy did a terrible job on "Changes I've Been Going Through." Turned a really nice song into generic background music. "Real Love" and "Reminisce" I listen to once in awhile. There is no remix for "Slow Down," a song from What's The 411? that I liked pretty well. Instead it was replaced with some other song I never heard of before. Die hard fans only.
