Wish I had this book a few career crises ago,

This book is a great concept and is extremely well executed. It achieves its goal of presenting actual informational interviews with cool interesting people who are top in their fields. It's the equivalent of going to an intimate dinner party with people who have interesting jobs you might want, without the awkwardness of hounding folks about the details of what they do and how they went about getting to do it. The book is also very funny of course -- Rosen's conversational style writing, taglines and charts and graphs gave me many laughs out loud. I wish I had had this book when I got out of college and the only job I could imagine wanting was working as an intern/page on Letterman. Great gift for anyone who thinks they need a life coach (one of the jobs profiled). Cheaper too.

So Helpful ---> go for it <3!,

My dad bought me this book after hearing about it on National Public Radio and, at first, I was a bit skeptical.
I mean, who really wants to waste time reading another boring 'How to' book on how to get a cool job? But really, this book isn't like that at all. It's factual of course, so you don't have to worry about how much of it is just hot air. But it's also very comical, interesting, and respectfully realistic. Not a candy-coater, but in no ways a dream crusher. What more could you ask for <3?

I couldn't put the book down. A perfect blend of entertaining yet informative. Whether or not you are (or will soon be) in the job market, it is a fascinating read especially for us curious types who wonder what happens behind all those scenes.

Finally a realistic career book!!,
This review is from: What's That Job and How the Hell Do I Get It?: The Inside Scoop on More Than 50 Cool Jobs from People Who Actually Have Them (Paperback)
Most career books I've read try to herd us into the same jobs without thinking out of the box. There are tons of other interesting, fun and well paying jobs out there that rarely seem to get mentioned. This book lists quite a few examples. It was a blast to read. It really helps expand your thinking and it makes the thought of a career change actually exciting!! And the income figures given are realistic too. Most other career books are way too low for whatever reason.
A great book and a great read!!

David Rosen's book, "What's That Job and How the Hell Do I Get It?", features TONS of useful information about professional and creative careers, and is written in a funny, down-to-earth voice that will have you laughing the entire way through. It's a must-read for those looking for a career, and also for people curious about the "day-to-day" of a ton of interesting (and sometimes quirky) jobs. Highly recommended!

Really smart career guide aimed mostly at college grads but also anyone who is confused about which way to go, job-wise. Great "day in the life" bits and excellent, specific "how to go get" each job, tips. Highly recco'd.

This is an outstanding, practical career resource guide written in a manner that is enjoyable to read. It covers the more realistic issues that one would encounter in each career rather than just merely listing statistics, with excerpts from leaders in each field. It would be a tremendous help for anyone from college students to those looking to make a career change.

I was expecting this to be a lot more in-depth than it actually was. Though it profiled a lot of careers, so many classic ones were missing (lawyer and doctor for example). While it was nice to get an example schedule and salary, I wish there were more tips for achieving the jobs examined.
