Very entertaining collection of musical junk, sounds, rhythms and beats., October 6, 2006
This review is from: What's That Noise? (Audio CD)
Hard to describe this album. It contains songs, cut-ups, bit of this and bits of that. It somehow all makes sense. British DJ Coldcut has made a number of albums since this one and they are probably much more sophisticated and musically developed. However, I enjoyed this album a lot in 1989 and it was very popular with my circle of friends and we often danced to it in both loungerooms, clubs and warehouse parties (raves).
Lisa Stansfield got her start here and I would have to say that she really has never sung a better song than People Hold On. Queen Latifah got started here, too! Mark E. Smith from the seminal Punk band, The Fall, make a contribution as well.
A range of musical styles are pursued on this album - from House to Dance Hall to Techno to Dub and other things I can't even begin to put a name to.
I still like hearing this recording. It was one of the first CDs I ever bought! True!
