Editorial Reviews

Review

A finger puppet book with a slightly ferocious looking wolf puppet that could initially have your toddler reluctant to touch and then reluctant to put down! It introduces learning the time as Mr Wolf and Little Wolf are permanently hungry, no matter what time of day it is. Your toddler will love using the puppet to eat himself, you and anyone else in the vicinity. babyworld.co.uk 20050301 Not only is this book educational, it is great fun and exciting. My five and eight year old thought it was excellent! Highly recommended! forparentsbyparents.com 20040801 Very original concept book with finger puppet wolf who appears through every page and adds a new dimension to the tale. Children will love acting out the story. Prima Baby 20040901 Includes a fabric finger puppet just right for snapping delightfully at any child who ventures too near. As well as being great fun, this book introduces the concept of telling the time by including both digital and analogue clocks on every page. SPPA Learning Through Play 20040401

4.0 out of 5 stars What's the Time Mr. Wolf?, June 1, 2010

Great book for introducing time to primary grades. Kids like the puppet feature of the book. Story uses standard time but the illustrations have military time, this encourages discussion for a teachable moment.

2.0 out of 5 stars One of the creepiest children's books I have ever seen, April 16, 2010

This review is from: What's the Time, Mr. Wolf? (Hardcover)
My almost two year old daughter is much more observant than my wife or I. When she sees this book, she says "wolf, scared." She then reflects on her response and says "crying." If you try to get near her with the puppet wolf mouth she runs away.

Wondering what was up, I took a closer look. On one page, it's time for Mr. Wolf to read. If you look carefully, he's reading a Cook Book with a picture of children in a stew pot on the cover. The children wolves are sitting at a little table with tea-set plates and silverware, with a doll on the main platter. When you get to the final page, it's 6:00, time for dinner. It seemed to my wife like a meaningless let-down, until we noticed that the whole wolf family is looking out at the reader/child, implying that YOU are dinner.

I should mention that the book is recommended for 3+, and my daughter is not yet 2. Maybe a 4 year old would like it.

If you're looking for a nice puppet book for kids, look elsewhere. If you WANT a really creepy kids book, this is one of the best. The "I'm going to eat you" references are a little subtle, and so all the more creepy.
