2.0 out of 5 stars A Slow Read
I did not really enjoy this book. It was too slow for me and did not get good until the end. I forced myself to read it and although some parts captured my attention, it just made me feel there could have been some more to it. It just didn't do anything for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars engaging family drama, August 25, 2004
This review is from: What's a Woman to Do? (Paperback)
In Dallas the three Hampton sisters feel they are close to one another, but each one keeps a major secret or two from their beloved siblings. Middle child Janeen feels she has hit the corporate glass ceiling especially when the board selected an outsider for a position that should have been hers, but it is her personal life that is in shambles. She and her womanizing spouse Ray are near the end as he cannot stop hopping the women and even sired a child with one of them. She now salivates over the FBI hunk investigating Ray.

The youngest Janesse, called Sissy, is enjoying the wild side of life running with a rough crowd pulling unethical real estate scams. The oldest sibling Joyce sees Sissy deeply kissing and groping Ray; she feels torn between her beloved sisters as she ponders telling Janeen what she has shockingly observed, which would break her relationship with Sissy; or does she remain quiet, which breaks her bond with Janesse?

WHAT'S A WOMAN TO DO is an engaging family drama that looks deep into how close siblings really are when secrets are kept that involves all of them. Sissy as the youngest has gotten away with crossing the line many times; Janeen as the middle sibling feels the squeeze above and below at home and at work; finally Joyce is the oldest who sets the moral tone for her younger sisters, but struggles with what she perceives is her moral role as an paragon for them. Victor McGlothin furbishes a strong, insightful and entertaining character study.

5.0 out of 5 stars A woman's gotta do, what a woman's got to do... !!!, February 7, 2005

This review is from: What's a Woman to Do? (Hardcover)
Victor McGlothin has written a tremendous story that is so captivating and real. You start this book and won't want to put it down. Janeen, Joyce, Sissy are 3 sisters from Newberry Louisiana and they have put Newberry behind them. Janeen has made a name for herself and is a career woman with values and virtues, then in walks Janeen's fantasy and what is a woman to do when the man in your fantasy is in the flesh, but she is married to Ray. Women really need to know who they are marrying, `cause it doesn't matter how long you are with someone, you still may not know them. Joyce and Janeen know something that Sissy doesn't know, but that's alright, `cause Sissy knows something that they don't know. Sissy is also a woman who knows men and she has what it takes to turn a head and quiet a room in a mere second, but then in walks Mr. Cooper after 3 years, what is a woman to do?? Secrets unravel and let the truth be told, when Joyce & Janine's bookclub decides to read a bestseller about women of Newberry. Uhhhhhhhhhh, who is this author, let the story be told. You will not predict the course of this novel nor the ending, so if you really want a good read, go ahead and get this book and trust me on this, you will enjoy it.
Great Job Victor McGlothin!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well written Mr. McGlothin, a very talented, simple yet touching look at the secrets that women all across the US and abroad hold near and dear to there hearts and soul. With the added twists and turns of work issues, problem relationships, family woes and a handsome man with characteristics to good to be true. (Is this anyone that we know) LOL This sisterhood of healing only begins after the lines of communication have been opened and the past issues have been faced. I enjoyed every minute of reading. KUDOS Victor!!! Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Must Have, November 26, 2003

What's a Woman to Do?, Victor McGlothin's second novel, is another must have for your collection. As demonstrated in his first novel, Victor has the wonderful ability to bridge the gap between social consciousness and great story telling. This novel is full of everything you could possibly want in a book- -romance, suspense, intrigue, and so many twists and turns that you won't be able to put the book down. So not only do you get an excellent story from beginning to end, this book may also end up helping you or someone you know.

Congratulations to the author and much continued success. You have a fan for life. I can't wait until the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really a Very Good Book, August 29, 2006

This is the second book I've read by this author and I have been thoroughly pleased by them both. Autumn Leaves was the first book for me. I think he does an outstanding job of presenting very believable storylines. Almost like both reading a newspaper and being a "fly on the wall". I believe he enjoys what he does, as it shines through his work.

This book is, as stated, about the relationships between three sisters. It has a few twists and turns, drama and secrets - past and present, very well written. If you don't read this book, then you are missing out on a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best book..., June 2, 2006
This review is from: What's a Woman to Do? (Hardcover)
This is one of the best book I've ever read. I started and couldn't put it down. The story line is great and the ending is so unpredictable even though the clues are right in front of you. I would recommend this book to anyone who knows what a real good read is.
