Book Description

April 2000
Absolutely nothing. Being single or facing divorce, separation or widowhood doesn't mean unhappiness. Singles--the latest, largest and least understood minority in America--are mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore. Drawing on many statistics and richly detailed case studies, Maryam Jorjani proves that society's pressures and misconceptions of togetherness drive many of us to get married. The result is often depression, divorce, addiction, violence--even suicide. Her conclusion: living the single lifestyle, free and independent, may just be the best prescription for what ails America.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a writer gives the pros of being single!, September 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: What's Wrong with Being Single? (Paperback)
Glad to read a book that doesn't make single women feel as though being single is a curse. Author encourages single women not to compromise their principles and standards just to conform to what society thinks they should be. She also gives concrete examples of what happens to women who do give in and how unhappy they are because they should have stayed single.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blame men., May 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I read this book because I'm a single man. I hoped to understand more about how women think about being single and what makes a relationship succeed or fail. What I learned, is that it's all my fault! After the first few chapters, I felt worn down by being constantly blamed for how society has treated women throughout history.

There's a lot of bias in this book. For example, the author admits that women have affairs too. But women have them, apparently, because they have been damaged (by men). Men have affairs simply because they feel trapped by being together in a relationship. Heads you win, tails I lose!

The author has clearly had bad experiences with men, and giving this book just one star would be just another example of how mean men are to women, so I will give it 2.
