The religious experience of boyhood.,
By
This review is from: In the wheat: Songs in your presence (Perfect Paperback)
The religious experience of boyhood. This book of poems concentrates on the theme of spiritual love: it describes an awakening and flowering, it tells of the pleasures and struggles involved. The author goes back to the time of his religious formation in a seminary at Notre Dame, Indiana and uses that location in the heartland of America as his setting. At that time he was a youngster of 13. The poetry that tells of past events unfolds intimate insights into the experience of this spiritual journey. Some of it views the events from a perspective later in life and imparts a sense that in the poetical experience something has been rediscovered and finally understood. The overall effect for the poet is that of wonderment at the magnitude of the occurrence. The reader might understand it as a song of praise that extols the vitality, spontaneity and freedom of youth. |
