4.0 out of 5 stars glad I bought it
Although I've got some pretty mean looking bunions they don't hurt me a lot but I started looking at bunion braces because my knees hurt and the doc said that poor foot mechanics may be a contributing factor. I've been wearing this bunion brace alot on my 'bad' side and I really like it. It seems to help my knee by moving my big toe back to a position where it can work...

3.0 out of 5 stars Either too small or a bad product
I have a serious bone disorder that has caused a bunion, and surgery made it worse. I decided to try this product to provide support during the day while I'm walking or standing.

I tried it for a week and I'm disappointed. It fits very snugly around my big toe, causing the fabric to rub against the top of my second toe. I had to stop wearing it after a few days...

I've been wearing this bunion brace alot on my 'bad' side and I really like it. It seems to help my knee by moving my big toe back to a position where it can work right and support my leg.

The neoprene isn't as thick as I thought it would be (thankfully) because I imagined a wetsuit. It fit under my Crocs Relief model shoes okay and I wore it when I went out on errands with no problems. It has more pull than you would think just looking at it but not too much - not painful, very gentle.

The only thing I might caution against is that if you have bad arthritis in your hands/thumbs it might be a little uncomfortable to pull on. The first day I did have toe rub between the big and next toe but I just wear it not pulled on as much -- none of my big toe pokes out the end now -- and I haven't had the problem again. I wear a women's 8D shoe and am using the W5-8.5.

I had to stop wearing it after a few days as it was causing pain with every step. I think the bending movement of my toes every step was causing the friction, and eventually the top of my toes were bleeding. Either it's poorly planned or the one I ordered is too small, but it will not work as is.

That said, the quality is good. It's a very thick, cushioned material that is difficult to wear under several pairs of shoes I own. The stitching is well done, so it will last a long time.

I'd recommend this for night-time use, but I don't think it's appropriate for the day if you are walking very much or have normal-width shoes. I will use this at night in alternation with the FootSmart Bunion Regulator that I also purchased. If you plan to wear this during the day, order a size larger than you think you'll need and you may be able to avoid the toe scraping.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very good, but limited support, April 28, 2009

This is an excellent tool for mild toe movement control, but in my case, the big toe is prone to move almost completely beneath the second toe and it requires a strong brace to hold it in place. This brace does not do that. It does not do the trick for me on my one foot that has a real major problem with the big toe. My other foot has the same problem but much milder. So I am using this Wheaton Bunion Brace on that foot and am looking for something much stronger for the other foot.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me., June 8, 2011
My foot doctor recommended this product to me so I bought them. We are trying to avoid surgery. When I first put them on they felt like they were going to work. With my foot off the ground it held my toe in a better position. As soon as I put weight on my foot, my toe went right back into its normal position. I decided to give it a try anyway seeing that the doctor wanted me to try them. They took a long time to get used to and didn't fit into my shoes well. They created a lot of pressure in my shoe and hurt my foot. They irritated my foot and I would kick them off in my sleep and would find them on the floor in the morning. I wore them for a month as much as I could and I didn't feel that they helped my foot at all. If anything, the callous that formed between my toe was obnoxious, and they made my feet sweat badly. Needless to say I gave it up and moved onto a new product that didn't work for me either. Maybe if your bunion isn't as bad as mine it would work better for you, but the fabric has too much give and wouldn't hold in my bunion in place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, fits snug, but kind of bulky..., June 7, 2010

This bunion brace was a good purchase decision, as it works well to contain the swelling from a recent bunionectomy. It is also working well to keep my toe straight; the only downfall is it's thickness, which makes it bulky and a bit uncomfortable to wear with a shoe. I've given up in wearing it with anything other than thong sandals and loose fitting athletic shoes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Used after bunion surgery..., October 14, 2011

My doctor recommended i buy these to use after bunion surgery. He said to cut the top of the big toe off so it isn't as snug. This did help keep the toes aligned but it wasn't that comfortable. I am sure nothing would have been comfortable after surgery. Was happy to finally remove it but it did the job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pricey, but...., November 30, 2010

It's expensive, but very comfortable. Not sure if the material that it was made of will last. I already have bunions so this is just to prevent it from getting worse. I also use toe separator for couple of minutes to an hour a day and then use the bunion brace at bedtime.
