GREAT FOR THE REBEL, LOSER, AND OUTCAST IN ALL OF US,
By Rocky (Canton, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wheatus (Audio CD)
This cd is a nice listen because all the songs are up-beat with a punk style I haven't heard in a while. The only spot where this album falls short is the length ... but thats normal for punk/skater type music. "Teenage Dirtbag" is a song that everyone can relate to because we've all wanted a girl/boy that was out of our league. My other favorite song is definitely "Punk azzed B" because it's about that person who just makes makes you cringe at the very thought of them (the chorus really hits the nail on the head). The lead singer has a genuinely awesome voice that is reminiscent of "Riff-Raff's" in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." I think these guys will really make a dent in the industry with their next album, but for now ... this one will give you a good taste of their style. A good buy all the way around.

I'm just a Teenage Dirtbag,
By Paul Camden (Washinton DC) - See all my reviews

Wheatus' self titled album is a refreshing sound of the new style of punk rock. The album is slightly similar to the sounds of Blink 182, but Wheatus is not as commercial. This CD is great if your just looking for a good time but musically it is not a masterpiece. All in all it is worth the money, although there are many other bands with the same musical stylings.

Not what I expected...,
By subpolka "subpolka" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wheatus (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after hearing Teenage Dirtbag incessantly played on the radio. Thought the song was a wee generic - though infectious - and expected the album to be full of the same, having already chalked Wheatus up as a one-hit wonder. I was wrong. Surprisingly, Teenage Dirtbag isn't even the best song on there. The songs cover a pretty broad range of styles (instead of being cookie-cutter crap); the relatively mellow A Little Respect seems almost out of place when sized up against the rest of the album. The lyrics are original and more intelligent than most of the trash that is on constant radio spin, the lead's voice is so prepubescently appealling, and the best tracks on there - Truffles and Wannabe Gangster - are too good to pass by. What else is there to say? Buy the album. You'll like.

At First Listen...,

At first listen, the word stupid comes to mind. But listen again. And then again. Then possibly again. There becomes a very clear underlying genius. It's as if Wheatus understands that they are being stupid and most people will recognize it and shrug them off as another weezer clone. But at the same time, they are very accomplished musicians and if someone takes the time to look past the initial stupidity, they are bound to find a brilliant record worth listening to over and over.

I was Nervous...,

I heard "Teenage Dirtbag" on European MTV when I was on a trip to germany. I fell in love with the song (which was good because they played it about 100 times a day). When I got back to the U.S. I looked around and found it at Best Buy. I was nervous because I wasn't sure if I'd like their other songs. But, it turns out I like EVERY SONG on the CD and that is very rare. Usually I only enjoy 3 or 4 tracks at the most. Their style is unique and his voice is cool, the lyrics are cool, too. It's one of those CD's that's easy to like and sing to. The remake of Simple Minds is pure genius!Definite 5 stars! I hope they come out with more stuff soon.

An amazing CD!!!,

I absolutely loved this CD!! The music of Wheatus is reminiscent of groups like Weezer, and the lead singer has a really amazing voice. I thought "teenage dirtbag" was a great song when I heard it on the radio and I was really surprised when the rest of the CD was good too. I can't even decide which song was my favorite. Also, I loved the cover of Erasure's "A Little Respect" (I like it even better than the original). If you are a Weezer fan, buy the Wheatus CD!!!

An Amazing Debut,
By "mattcarrot" (STudVIllE) - See all my reviews

Ok, the first and second time I tried reviewing this, it was deleted because I used one of the track's name in my review. (it's track 9, for the uninitiated) Or, I think that's the reason. Anywho, on to business. Wheatus is an excellent punk/geek debut, up to par with such classics like Smash, and Weezer. They fill every song with so much humor (the first line in the first song is hilarious enough to keep listening) and wit, that really, no track sucks. The singer, is uh, different, albeit a little tiring after a while. Truffles is a great song, it's really wicked and weird. (the freaky vocals mixed with carnival music blend perfectly) Teenage Dirtbag is your typical Wheatus track, like Buddy Holly was to Weezer. Hump em n Dump em is probably the funniest track, as Wheatus take shots at Clinton, Hillary, and Monica. (its not stated but implied heavily) Track 9 is really, a song that struck a chord (with me and about half of the male species) It's funny and insightful in many ways. Wannabe Gangstar is the perfect ending track, filled with good lyrics and slow beat. All in all, this is very good stuff. They are definitely not one hit wonders-disregard all such comments.

Wheatus defines today's generation,

I guess with working long hours to pay the bills, and all the other day-to-day tedium,I've sorta become out of touch with whats going on around me.After picking up this CD and giving it a spin straight through with the headphones on,the whole vibe of the late 90's/early millenium hit me like a ton o' bricks. After hearing "Teenage Dirtbag" blaring over the loudspeakers at the local bar one night,it was a MUST that I picked up that CD.I'mglad that I did.I hope to hear more from these guys, but if anything-Phil Jiminez's production skills are what truly carry this album.I'm sure we'll at least hear more from him-and hopefully,as well,Wheatus.

Wheatus,
By Andrew Johnson (Boulder, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wheatus (Audio CD)
Well, Wheatus has a sound that is definately on of a kind, it is captivating and somewhat mysterious at the same time. They blend new sounding light rock with a heavy and catchy guitar chorus into a songs that make you hit repeat over and over. They singing is one further example of the breakthrough sounds. It is definately a different new and needed sound in todays music scene.
