I've programmed my CD player to loop through songs 4 (Samhain), 5 (Beside Yourself) and 11 (The Trees Know) and believe I will wear out the CD before I get tired of any of these songs. This is exceptionally transforming music. Rolling, dancing melodies that carry the spirit, mostly piano, well-laced with occasional mandolin, vocals of the highest order (many tracks are Ms. Welch herself, very nicely joined by Ernest Kinsolving in The Trees Know), all of it sung from from way deep in the heart.

Much seems to want to be called Folk, which compliments the category at least as much as it does the music. Beside Yourself demonstrates considerable skill as Blues.

If I'd heard any of these three songs in a movie I'd definitely have stayed to watch for it in the credits.

If music can transport you to sweet, profound places, enflame your soul, and recharge your will, then turn your wheel over to Elisa Welch for a few minutes or hours. I believe you will very much enjoy where she takes you.
