Wheel of Misfortune,

My wife likes the show, so I picked up this PC game on CD at Five Below for five bucks. I knew it was a closeout first released on 9/19/2000 for windows 95 and 98 so expected to find some challenges running it on Win XP. The installation screen is straightforward, although I could not get the Read Me button to work. There is also an option to install Direct-X 7.0 which should be skipped unless you are running a very old version of Windows. I don't believe there is any harm in selecting that item, because the program did not overwrite the current version when I selected it. The game options let you customize whether or not you want to be limited to a 15 minute game and how long the (up to three, including Computer) players should have to answer. The only way I could get the sound to operate was to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 98 (click the shortcut, select Properties, Compatibility, check Run in mode for Windows 98 / Me). Playing does have some quirks - occasionally the letters selected are not posted, right answers are ignored, the game may ignore one or more players (Vanna asks her questions, but accepts no responses), prizes awarded may be wrong, cash may be awarded in the wrong amount and sometimes the game just quits. However, despite her complaints, my wife keeps playing, so I give it three stars. Just don't expect tech support or perfect performance and you'll enjoy the game. Hey -- what do you expect for five bucks?!
PS The game may run better in a DOS "front end" like DOS-Box, but I haven't yet tried that.

This product is 10 years old that I didn't know it when i bought it. I wanted the version that you could play online for a short time. I don't like how Vanna is on hosting too much and why does there have to be prizes on the wheel. I don't care about the prizes and what I can't win anyways.

To much time wasted on introduction and closing the game out. It could be simpler on telling you where players stand.

I've had this game for some time now, but while it does work on my Windows Vista computer, I only play it every now and again. There's way too much going on with the graphics and Vanna annoys me (she doesn't bother me if I'm watching it on tv).
When I do play, I turn the volume off so I can't hear Vanna saying things like "There are no Rs. Too bad." Grr... Too bad it's not Pat Sajak.

I would of thought the graphics would be better, to much of the same wording over and over without much of a change but over all the game is still fun to play.
